Once you set the nailer to the substrate you are nailing into, it does remain very consistent. For remodels with wavy walls, it’s as easy as putting a pry bar beside where you need to float the nail a bit more to space the siding away from the house, then when you fire the nail, it will be set a bit more proud of the wall.
