I'm originally from NY & used to work at a social work agency there many years ago. We had a group of middle eastern women that were living in hiding, constantly in fear because of these so called 'honor killings' that were common in their culture. I worked in the childcare program at the agency in which we watched their children while they had their group therapy sessions. I can't even begin to tell you how sad it was to watch these women enjoy sharing those moments together & smile if only for a few hours a couple days a week, to then walk out the building with that look of fear & constantly watching their backs. It broke my heart every time watching them leave. Imagine waking up & not knowing if your life will he snuffed out on that day. To think that's still a sad reality for some.
