V12 at full bore: Ferrari 550 Maranello GT1 on track & in-depth

The Ferrari 550 Maranello GT1 was the car that brought the Prancing Horse back to sports car racing after almost a decade away.

And it was this very car that led the charge: the very first factory-produced competition 550. See it back on track and hear the fizzing, buzzing roar of its 600bhp V12 engine, as Rob Ladbrook tells the story of this key part of Ferrari's history.

That noise should be my Alarm every morning.

based on the title I thought we'd be hearing a Ferrari V12 race car for a few minutes.. not someone talking with a little engine noise in between. That was disappointing.

A publication like "Motor Sport Magazine" should know that Ferrari F40 LM and even more so F40 GTE were racing in the mid-90s and AFAIK once even beat the McLaren F1 GTR.

N-Technology built the 575 GTC, not the 550... They also built the Super 2000 spec Alfa Romeo 156 GTA:s in the ETCC.

GT1 cars were f&^%'n magnificent, ice-cold awesome through the 90s and 00s and the short-lived GT1 World Challenge in 2010 was some of the best racing I have ever, ever seen...I would much rather have been seeing GT1 cars for the last decade than LMP2 cars, sorry LMP2 guys...

4 minute video "V12 at full bore" ... only 10 seconds of V12 sound :/

Better microphones next time please, you weren't able to catch the beautiful sound of that engine due to distortion and wind noise. See link above to see how it should be done.

Next time, nix the guy talking and just leave the V12 on full chat for 4 minutes.

Better video.
