There was a Netflix episode special of the Clone Wars where Yoda basically went on a journey to become a force ghost. He fought a dark side version of him which represents his hubris which he didn't know he had.

Compare this to Eragon, where the Yoda figure in that book spent the years in isolation composing a training regimen harder and more intense than any that has come before. Not only that, but he is crippled so he can’t actually participate in the fight. But in one of the later books he just goes “you know what, I need to help.” And assists.

The easy handwavey explanation is that Yoda is so old and wise, it was all just reverse psychology to make Luke even more motivated to prove himself and thus complete his training faster

I think the more interesting explanation is that this guy has been living in isolation for decades with no apparent way to leave, so he's turned into a really weird gremlin who no longer has any personal connection to the war or people fighting it

Tbh the whole “I knew you weren’t good enough, ” as a mentor emotional-beat pisses me off like nothing else. If you think your apprentice is doing poorly, why did you teach them so poorly? At what point do you admit you’re a bad teacher and that’s why people struggle to learn under you?

Yoda found the same end point that Luke did in Episode 8, but was too much of a coward to admit the truth he had learned (that the Jedi had become a bloated, corrupt, and complacent order of war dogs) and work to either reform or properly end the jedi order as it was.

The gremlin apparently considered himself the _epitome_ of "teach an old frog new tricks, you cannot."


Also that "violence is not the answer" bullshit he gave to Luke knowing full damn well he could have solved the entire war, and the Sith, if he used violence like a scalpel and not particularly concussed hammer.

Aside from Yoda not learning his lesson with Anakin and not wanting another Vader to roam around. He was gonna pick Leia which is why he said no. But he could’ve fuckin answered quicker

I don’t remember the exact specifics, but I watched a video explaining this and the reason is that Yoda wanted to train Leia instead of Luke, because he saw too much dark side and Anakin in Luke or some shit

I'm pretty sure that George Lucas said the reason Yoda was so against training Luke is because he'd had his heart set on training Leia (which is fair, she's way better) but *BEGGARS CAN'T BE CHOOSERS YODA!*
