Classic! "Hail! Hail! Rock and Roll"! "School Days" was a US top ten hit for Chuck Berry in 1957. "No Particular Place to Go" took the arrangement back to the top ten in 1964.

Chuck Berry is nicknamed the "Father of Rock & Roll". "Johnny B. Goode" is one of his most famous songs from 1958. He had a lot of hits in the 50's-60's such as "Maybellene", "Roll Over Beethoven", "No Particular Place To Go", "Rock & Roll Music", "You Never Can Tell", "Nadine" etc. He was known for his guitar solos, duckwalk & showmanship.

I saw on the Tonight Show when I was a kid and he played Roll Over Beethoven. Johnny Carson asked him if he could play Johnny B Goode for him if the band new it. Chuck said “They know it. It’s the same song with different lyrics.” 😂

Harri, AC/DC did a fun cover of this on one of their early albums.

Best verse from this song ", Hail, hail rock and roll
Deliver me from the days of old
Long live rock and roll
The beat of the drums, loud and bold
Rock, rock, rock and roll
The feelin' is there, body and soul " It was prophetic....

My older brother woke us up with this song every year on the first day of school. Then I did the same for my kids. (Afternoon end of the school year, we played School’s Out by Alice Cooper.) I digress. Thanks for this one — love Chuck Berry!

First released as a single in 1957, then on an album " After School Session", 2 months later. This was first Harri, Chuck released No Particular Place to go was released in 1964, using some of this musical arrangement. It describes school life in the 50's and is his best know song. The title is not in the song, and people believed it was actually called Hail Hail Rock n Roll after a line in the last verse. Made it to Number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100's and Number 1 on the Billboard Best Seller chart. It was Number 24 in the UK and Chuck's first hit there.
From the first guitar note, you are drawn it. The bass line and drums
so addictive, appealing lyrics and Chuck's vocals, this was a massive hit. So much fun. Great reaction Harri. 😊 Thanks for a great memory. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

Long live Rock and Roll!!! You´re right, Berry used this melody later for No particular place to go.I guess he was fond of doing this. His song "Let it rock" has the same melody as Johnny B.Goode, except for the ...Go, Johnny go..." parts

Unfortunately, our town had no place for kids to hang out, and everything but the bar closed up by 7 at night. Little village in the middle of nowhere and farms with a bit of woods. With the exception of playing sports and raising animals for fair there was little to do. There was the radio, but you had to drive at least 30 minutes to get to the nearest music store.

Chuck Berry was foundational for Rock'n'Roll.

His songs are not complicated or difficultto play, this means, you can go out, buy your first guitar and by bed time have a good grip of the song.

His lyrics too, about boring everyday things, that everyone could connect with

Most importantly, he wrote his own songs, which just wasn't a thing back then, usually, song writing was a seperate process.

To use Motown as an example, one part of the company was the live acts, who played 5 nights a week and toured but the other half was at HQ, Hitsville, where they wrote and played the songs

The touring artists, played 5 nights a week and had Sunday off, on Monday, they came to the studio, to see what Holland, Dozier & Holland or Smokey Robinson had cooked up for them, the previous week and recorded it. Then it was back out on the road.

A very different era

It’s kind of hard to believe Chuck’s only number one hit was “My Ding-a-Ling” in 1972.

Another great blast from the past. Such fond memories are evoked. I often long for simpler times in our current chaos 🥲. Thanks Harri 🌺✌️
