"Steve? Y-you're alive!" I've witnessed how dementia can steal away the simple dignity of having a loved one remember from one minute to the next that you're even there. This exchange is more authentically heartbreaking for Steve Rogers than many can know. Moments like these aren't strictly necessary in a run-of-the-mill superhero/action movie. This is real pathos, earned through character arcs developed across multiple films in the franchise, and superb performances by these two actors.

Old Peggy was done with CGI

And this was done when the MCU knew how to use CGI properly

I watched my grandma slip away from dementia. I watched her forget who my kids were mere seconds after being reminded that she had great-grandchildren. I watched her talk to me, a 37 year old, as if i was a 12 year old boy again. This scene always makes me cry now that she's passed. RIP abuela, love you always.

I’m impressed how Steve still wants to be with her after 70 years.

I could do that a thousand times, I'd probably torture my own emotions but there comes a realization that it will just be the same response and just because you love and care for someone enough. 💙

It hits harder knowing what we know about this. Not the fact he goes back, but the fact he goes back knowing what he knew and how how Rogers was willing to not alter the timeline regardless of this outcome. People and their drama and all that... How many if they got that glimpse into the future would still say yes.? Yes, that's my person and those are my kids and I am willing to suffer end endure for all of it not matter what. Serious moment beyond words and sound.

Peggy’s mental state wasn’t helped by seeing the young Steve each week and then being visited by her husband as older Steve on other days.

Captain America should have went on that date with Peggy Carter.
Cap's battle's not here it's in the past.

omg I think I just realised something: this Peggy knows Steve will return to her! she says "the best you can do is start over", after just saying "you didn't get to live yours". She KNOWS!
And when her dementia hits, and she says "You've come back", that wasn't a new, fresh reaction having never seen him, it's reliving the moment when she DID see him return to the past for her!!!!

My grandma's last moments alive was when she had dementia and couldn't even remember her own kids faces. She died in 2020 during the COVID pandemic and my dad suspected that she was one of the first victims of covid because of the symptoms she was exhibiting when she died was very similar to the common symptoms of COVID. The last time I saw her was in 2018, her dementia was still active but she could still recognize me and my dad's face. I remember choosing my words carefully and really only speaking when spoken to, I was afraid of saying something that would upset her. Talking about a memory of the past that she doesn't recall that type of thing. The thing that you should know about my grandmother was she had a brilliant mind and was a published author. My dad told me that my grandma was so pleased when she found out I was following in her footsteps when he showed her a poem I wrote. Now 4 years after her death, I am nearing the end of writing my first book and I wish I could show her what I have accomplished. Would she enjoy my writing? Would she be proud of me? My grandmother is a part of my inspiration in me being a writer today. Seeing this video of old Cap seeing his former love interest affected by dementia really reminded me of my grandma. It is really hard to see someone you care about have a debilitating condition affecting their memories where they are no longer capable of recognizing their own family in the worst case scenario. I wish there was a cure for this type of thing but honestly pharmaceutical companies find producing many pills to treat one illness is more profitable than producing one pill to cure an illness. For this reason I don't know if dementia or Alzheimers in general will ever be cured but I can only hope.

The older Marvel movies we're awesome, largely a shell of what they are in the 2020's. Minus Guardians3, a rare exception.
