A little late to the party here, but thank you for this! It is short, concise, clear and I don't wish to sound corny, but your narration is very calming. I feel that I could switch-out the hammer now for a screwdriver... ;-)

Do you need to download OS before on it?

It's a pretty simple job to use a pair of pliers (if you don't have the right driver bit) to unscrew the mounting studs on the sides of the drive. You can move those studs over to the new drive and get a perfect fit by replacing the retainer bar over the studs. This will let the air flow around the drive as designed and secure the drive properly.

Thanks for this video. I have a MB Pro Mid 2012, and I need a new HDD, and I am pretty good with replacing parts since i have done it with all my computers, even this one where I expanded the memory to 16 GB.

My HDD failed on me, and I've been booting from an external (1 TB) Hard Drive. My question is, would I be able to transfer everything FROM the external onto the NEW HDD once I get it?

I do music production, and running software from the external is causing me all kinds of issues. Any advice would be very helpful as I do NOT want to lose everything, and have to start over AGAIN.

Thanks.

My Macbook had phillips screws in by default not TORX, i think they want you to be able to get the back off to swap drives memory ect.
