Yeah money definitely counts. But here's the thing, if making most money is a person's goal i think there are lot of better career opportunities besides of coding, like being a lawyer, doctor, trading or running a business as a software engineer. If your(didn't mean you it's an anectodal thing) life goal is grabbing most money out of your job then you're scraping your soul, the better you earn the better stress you'll have. Either you choose to be an enterpreneur or go for trading if your life goal is money farming. Living at medium-uppish class life is enough for me, but people are different. If i wanted to be rich then i wouldn't choose to be an employee, i would try to run my business.
Or dive into AI world, most of pretty senior AI engineers earn 7 digits per year easily, you can't earn maximum wages being in web dev world, you need to dive into math heavy areas that are no one able to understand easily, only then you can f0ck money.
But what you'll start to realize after a certain age is that, do what you love, money comes with that. In our country, 50.000+ people died in 1 minute because of an earthquake. See ? Life is too short my man, as you're trying to farming money you can always die suddenly like that unexpected reasons (earthquake, cancer, heart attack, got a bullet in the head etc). Live your life, life is too short to be farming money. Take my example. 50.000+ people died in 1 minute it was a bloodbath as hell !
