Well, this happened with the TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew at the Senate's hearing on online child safety. Several Republican lawmakers grilled Chew, who is a Singaporean, on his nationality, his company’s connection to China and even went as far as asking if he was part of the Chinese Communist Party.

The main thing that these politicians don't understand in this case is how Chinese firms work.

Chinese investors won't even give you money if you don't incorporate your company outside of China before opening the Chinese subsidiary... Because they don't want their international profits exposed to the Chinese government... Much like many American companies admittedly.

Bytedance owning TikTok doesn't mean very much in itself. And TikTok has worked very hard to separate their data and create systems of 3rd party audits to make sure that they can prove that they aren't subject to Chinese government influence.

Which admittedly doesn't protect them from the machinations of politicians that don't care about legal systems (perhaps because they tend to put effort into working around them themselves).

TikTok's treatment in the US also isn't that different from US Tech firms' treatment in the EU... It seems that discrimination towards foreigners is just one of those common human failings.

That guy Cyrus Janssen you mentioned is a Canadian Wumao alright. He's got no authority over that Shou is not a external CCP member. And if Shou is communist that does not mean all Singapore is, just that China put him there. I don't know if all Indian news are connected but you should all exercise rational thought in your reporting.
