The old manifold will be warped so when repairing this concern be sure to install a new manifold kit as shown Here- (check fitment guide)
Most important is to replace the manifold studs and nuts with a stainless steel kit-
Don't forget Nickel Anti-Seize for the down pipe studs-

Thank you my man! EXACT same sound coming from my 2016 Ford Explorer 117k miles - lasts ~10sec on cold start, and gradually corrects over ~5sec

2000 Expedition did the same thing, rear pass side. I let it go for a year. The manifold cracked one day and had to get replaced. Six months later, the other side started leaking. Gotta love Ford. They keep building them the same way, knowing they fail.

Great video! I have this exact thing happening on a 3v V10. I thought it was a timing chain tensioner bleeding off I'm glad it's an exhaust leak thank for posting.

This dude is a 4.6/5.4 genius. Love his videos! Thanks a lot man.

I love the sound that those Ford truck starters make. It sounds like they use a "beefier" starter for the SUVs and trucks with 4.6 compared to the started used on cars equipped with the 4.6.

I know old video, but I have a 2004 expedition 160, 000 miles there is a slight ticking noise but when I accelerate the noise goes away, happens warm/cold doesn't matter. After accelerating the ticking is faster with the raised rpms. Used a stethoscope couldn't really pin point where it's coming from. Not fuel injectors. Was thinking maybe lifter or oil pump going out and not getting enough oil up to lifters? I haven't used a gauge to check. But the one in vehicle says it has good pressure. It is a "retired" police car. Not sure how many hours on engine. Your videos have helped with a lot. Thanks for the content.

You are the best! I was worried it was my lifters. Thank God it was just that! Thanks a bunch! 2010 F150 5.4L 3V

My 07 CVPI started doing this about a 2 weeks after I installed Glasspacks. I knew it had to be an exhaust leak. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

great video. I'm in the middle of repairing same issue on my 5.4l 3v 2007 f150. only had 2 studs holding passenger manifold. currently pulling engine out to drill them

is there a difference in the sound of a lifter (valve noise) and timing chain noise?
do you have an example, 92 explorer v6 4.0mfi

I have the opposite problem in the 2010 E350 2V - starts off quiet, gets to a tick when it warms up.

Man this is pretty much what my 2012 6.2L F250 has been doing. Ticking on cold startup then goes away about 15 seconds later. I have noticed a slight difference in the exhaust sound as of late like something may be leaking. Looks like I'll be setting up an appointment with my dealer asap. PS. We need some good videos of the 6.2L. Seems like there is a void for that particular motor on your channel. 😉

I have an interesting case. My son in law has a 2005 f150 with the Windsor 4.6. It's making this strange knocking noise but runs like a champ. It is a 2v motor and has 180k miles on it. We have pulled the valve covers and I stalled New followers and lash adjusters, still knocking and even though it sounded like the knocking was coming from the top of the motor (why we changed out the followers and lash adjusters), we though for sure this would fix it. Any suggestions? I've heard that it maybe a dropped valve guide? Does this sound right to you? I would think a dropped guide would cause all kinds of failures, specially to that valve and possibly the cylinder.

Listen to this man, he is a master of ford modular moters, cast cast iron exhaust manifold, and aluminum heads expand at different temperatures no b😮 deal just drive it, unless you want to pull moter

My f150 makes this noise under load like going up a hill or under hard acceleration .. I also have another exhaust leak that sounds like tapping a knuckle on a wood table . so now that I saw this I'm guessing its exhaust . thank you

Had that happen on both sides of my 08 F150 luckily it was covered under the 80k power train warranty. Whew.

How can you tell if it is the manifold like this or if it is the timing chain and what not? Really trying to avoid an engine rebuild... I just bought a used 2008 Lincoln Navigator and when I test drove it, I felt a slight misfire and so before purchasing, they replaced the plugs. A few days later and some cold weather, I started her up to go to work and heard a sound like in this video. Very worried about what to do next. I've been watching all your videos about these problems all night and can't seem to differentiate between the sound this makes and the sound all the other issues make. Any help would be amazing!

I have this exact kind of noise coming from the right side of my 2010 Expedition, but it never goes away. Auto zone guy listened to it and said injector noise since it is there all the time and varies with acceleration. Easiest way to check?

Have you made a video explaining the timing chain rattle on cold start in these engines? Especially the 4.6L? i heard it was caused by the oil filter you used, so I switched to motorcraft and it seems to happen even more now

Thank you so much! My exact sound and problem on my 06 Explorer.
