I know this an old vid but I can't help but comment.. Totally refreshing to see Freddie's swing again after a grueling 10 weeks of having an instructor try and teach me this new athletic squat, drag the handle thru, and fire from the ground up bs... Screw that. I'm going back to being a swinger of the club..

That is rhythm. He has always had it, still does. It is a joy to watch - the ease, the flow, never rushed, never jabby at the ball, the same every time varying only for distance or type of shot. We should all aspire to play that way. The music simply proves the rhythm. Good job.

For the people who want to try the same: it's his light grip!
As he mentioned a few years ago. You can see his right thump here ~0.09. Hold it like a Putting grip and you can control the wrists, arms and club quite effortless.

Look up Mac O'Grady. What Fred does is a simple turn. (in place - does not move off the ball) He turns the left shoulder under the chin, and then the right shoulder under the chin. Also employs an open stance, and open clubface to his stance alignment. Also key to what Fred does is the strong left hand grip.

I love his swing - it's a thing of beauty. However, be aware that Couples has incredible shoulder flexibility, has a bad back probably caused by years of moving his hips forward so far, and when interviewed about his swing, he says that he "gives it all he's got" once he's in the slot (despite appearances). I think the main lesson his swing reveals to us mortals is that the transition is so smooth.

Excellent job. He's still my hero and I've got pictures and mock-ups of him all over my workout room. I learned to swing like him slightly and it really works and it is quite radically different. A Very Precise Less is in fact More.
