US and Russia.

I like that you mentioned that is just the ADIZ and still within international airspace. Some media outlets blow this out of proportion and make it like Russians flew over Anchorage. Realistically, the moment you violate another’s airspace and don’t turn back inside when operating a military aircraft, you are either going to be forced to land and taken prisoner or be shot down.

Happens quite often with EU-Russia too.
Tbh. it happens very likely between many nations.

If they didn’t give the Russians the finger, then Top Gun lied to me and my world view will be profoundly shaken.

I laughed so hard when i saw this in a Hungarian news article with the headline "Russian bombers were heading to the US, F-16s were called"

My brother flew alert for several years in Alaska. He said it's been going on since the 1950s to test us. He also said it's so common the pilots would wave to each before "peeling off" to head for their respective homes.

"Intercepted" more like, " had a playdate"

"Supported by F-35's"

Translation: The F-35's had radar lock 30 minutes ago. The F-16's did the meet and greet. But if anything had happened the F-16's would bail while a missile was destined to meet with each of the 4 jets.

I don’t know if it would happen in this instance, but typically these interactions are pretty friendly! Some semi wholesome one even, from time to time! “Hello neighbor!” 😂

As an Alaskan, this occurs so often that it is meh news.

Damn that logistics backup shows that they were ready to rock if Ivan did something stupid.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this is the U.S. pilots way of getting free vodka lmfao

And the Russians probably didn't even know the F35's were present.

Absolutely true. I was an F-15c pilot with the 43rd TFS, Elmendorf AFB, Anchorage, Alaska in the 80"s and early 90's. The Russians simply liked to say hello, and no doubt, check our readiness.

I have seen a video of a pilot pressing a centerfold pic to the cockpit window showing it to the other pilot during such an interaction in the 90s

Surprised Russia managed to obtain enough bubble-gum, duct-tape, and wood-screws to actually get so many planes flying.
