Necromancy is an ancient practice that has both fascinated and horrified humanity throughout history.
It involves summoning the spirits of the dead and communicating with them to learn about the future and uncover hidden knowledge. It’s what we call black magic or death magic, the type that’s dangerous, taboo, and should be avoided. But necromancy wasn’t always viewed this way. In fact, so common was this idea that Homer even included an account of necromancy in the Odyssey.

In my tribe in Africa, some legendary necromancers claimed to even be able to speak with a random spirit in the cemetery to carry out revenge on your behalf and act like judge. The summoned spirit will then check what the accused person is guilty of, and if true the spirit will exact extreme punishment including car accidents or serious prolonged sickness. In extreme cases they will be unalived, but if you were lying, it will turn on you. The dead are feared and given healthy level of respect. When you force them back into our world, they return in rage.Our tribes saying goes, "Those that are dead, are not dead".

This type of esoteric art is one if not the most dangerous forms of spirit channelling. It is very serious, intense, can have major life altering, psychological and physical effects to those who don't know what they are dabbling in.

I'm going to say 50/50 chance of neither good or neither bad because if you disrespect the spirits they'll attack but if you respect the spirits they will trust you some spirits may be tricking you will some actually giving you the answer you need necromancy is very powerful and dangerous if anyone who's afraid of it if anyone had negative energy or any negative manifestation of your fear and anger then the spirit may attack you but if you think about positive and respectful to the spirits instead of insulted then they'll give you the answer you desire

Necromancy is something I wouldn't touch, too much bad things could happens, and not clear goods than you can't find in other parts. I read about different practices and the amount of "black magic" than enslave a spirit or requires sacrifices is high, and its something I'm not atracted at all.

Ive been reading and putting to use _Consorting with Spirits_ by Jason Miller, and I find his take to be accurate. Treat every new spirit acquaintance the same as you would a human one, and when you find an a-hole, stop talking to them. It's not scary or complicated, but for me and for most people, the skill does not come easily.

The way I see it, Christianity is highly steeped in necromancy and communion is one of its darkest aspects, symbolizing the ingesting of the body and drinking of the blood.

It is possible to communicate with the dead persons. There are various rituals to connect with the souls of dead people and communicate with them.

Some rituals need ceremony with prescribed steps of observances of specific performances. Some rituals are very simple with out any formal processes.
We can communicate with any dead persons if we know the process involved for that.
History has a records of such instances .

I don't believe in necromancy or any form of communing with the dead. However, I am a fiction writer working on a fantasy story with a complex magic system. Traditional necromancy is an important part of the worldbuilding. Necromancers are typically mages who are able to see spirits naturally. They typically develop this skill by the age of 12 but most Necromancers can see spirits before this; some even at birth. Part of my worldbuilding is that Necromancers deal with all aspects of death. They give end of life counsel, help people grieve, they also help spirits move on to the afterlife. They are the morticians of my world and prep bodies for funerals and burial. They also calm angry spirits or settle poltergeists as well as the traditional work of communing with the dead for knowledge. Rarely, however, do they animate a corpse.

I was surprised that the switch from seeing Necromancers as mediums to evil warlocks who raise the dead wasn't talked about. When did this happen?

For anyone really interested - it's kind of a secretive subject from what I have observed, but Pythagoras wrote of Metempsychosis which involved transferal of spirits upon/after death into another living thing or an object. So, like the video says, Necromancy is "establishing contact with the dead, " but it goes deeper than just talking.

When I became a Wiccan, I learned to do this. From what I've experienced, the dead don't know the future any more than we do. They do know what's going on and can reveal past information if they know it Ghosts are all around us and frustrated that we ignore them. I use a pendulum to make these communications. Apparently, not everyone can get it to work. Becoming a Wiccan involves meditation. Ray Buckland referred to it as developing the magick mind. If I can do it, pretty much anyone can. Death is like Astral Projection until some baby sucks your soul into it. Get too close to a Baby's event horizon and bam, diapers and baby food.

I believe you don't actually communicate with the dead person in question, but to spirits who assume their identity, for whatever reason they see fit.
