The story of the IS tank family started in 1942, when a team of armor design engineers in Chelyabinsk began to work on a new heavy tank. The idea was to create a vehicle boasting both the mobility of a medium tank and the firepower of a heavy tank.

Correct me if I’m wrong but from what I’ve seen the company That made the IS series continues making heavy tanks for the Soviet Union but they had to rename one of their tank T-10M because Stalin died, it’s originally named IS-8 and IS-9 and the name of IS-10 was accepted in 1952

An interesting piece of info for you guys here. During the tender, the IS7 was rejected due to its weight (Nearly 70 tonnes as you said) with the Russian government saying production tanks could not be over 45. but some some sources actually suggest that this wasn't the case. its thought that the IS7 actually weighed upward of 80 tonnes, possibly 90! and that the specifications were reduced to around 65 to give it a feasible chance at going into production... sadly (or gladly, depending) this didn't work

Fun fact:
When IS-7 was presented to Nikita Kruschev he said to the head engineer "You're fat and your tank is fat. I wont have enough steel in whole Soviet Union to build this"...and then cancelled the project.
