BT Family / War Thunder

When somebody says “wheeled tanks”, the first vehicles most people think of are probably the Italian Centauro or the South-African Rooikat, both of which are pretty recent designs. In reality though, the first vehicles of this type appeared as early as the first half of the 20th century. John Walter Christie, a talented American engineer, came forward with the idea for a design that made them possible, and the Soviet military were daredevil enough to roll with it. And so, in the interwar period, the Red Army received their first highly mobile “convertible” tanks with a unique wheels-and-tracks system. They were known as BT tanks, with “BT” standing for “Bystra-khodnyy Tank”, or “high-speed tank”.

Fun fact, the BT-7 tank holds the world record for the longest tank jump ever.

For all of those asking for when the bt-42 is coming it most likely is, but it is very unlikely it will be in the russian tech tree because gaijn has basically assigned finland as swedens sub tree

Hay Gaijin can you make the BT tank Run on its road wheels when the tracks are removed. Can you make a system where we just have to push a button and both tracks are then removed that will be very cool and it will make a very fast tank even faster.

As we are all begging, i would love to see the bt series to get a modification that you own from the start to enable or disable the tracks much like with the VFW and its folding side skirts.

The BT tanks were regarded as capable adversaries in the Invasion of Manchuria, to my knowledge. In particular, the Japanese noted that the Soviets had very good gunnery skills, with one commander commenting something to the effect of "as soon as you see the flash of the enemy tank will you notice a hole in your own tank".

BT-5's are unquestionably feared by enemy AI, an entire squad of advancing AI tanks will prefer to target the BT-5 if it's stationary, on fire or being repaired. And AI planes will always change course to bomb a stationary BT-5.

Hopefully this video hints at the addition of the BT-42, and not as a reward in an annoying crafting event. Sweden desperantly needs more vehicles for the TT.

BT's were the bane of rank I-III that they were feared sometimes because when you spot one you need to take it out quick or else they move away from your sight and precision aim you on your weakspots. They still are the bane of the 3 ranks especially Realistic Battles.

Fun fact: the first ever bt was supposed to be used in the u.s army but they did not buy the tank so Christie guy sold his tank to the Soviets and since he couldn't afford to send tanks he made the tank into 2 pieces the Chasey being labeled as agriculture tractor and the turret being labeled as grapes

Man, I love how educational this vid is and you didn’t even need to use old real life footage.

I love when a channel about a game makes actual history lesson videos about the vehicles in the game :D
