This setup was great 8 years ago.
Still helps when you make your home theater, but Blu-Ray based and Dolby Atmos capable :D

2020 and still kicking. This video was awesome sauce. I loved your corporate voice, if I could imagine someone reading my spreadsheets it would have been you and I mean it in a best way possible.

Great Scott:
HDMI will give you both picture and sound in the HIGHEST quality available
you do not need to use optical fiber cable ( the wire with the red light on each end )
all you need is one HDMI cable for each component cable box, game console, DVD, etc...

NOTE: TV CONNECTION: THE VIDEO SHOWS PLUGGING AND HDMI FROM THE RECEIVERS HDMI (ARC) TO ONE OF THE TV''S HDMI PORTS, BUT IF YOUR TV INCLUDES AND HDMI ARC, YOU SHOULD PLUG THE HDMI CABLE INTO THAT PORT AND NOT A REGULAR HDMI PORT. THE ARC FEATURE ALLOWS THE UNITS TO COMMUNICATE TO EACH OTHER WHEREAS A REGULAR HDMI DOES NOT.

I am trying to hookup a non-powered subwoofer that has speaker wires, not RCA. I bought a male rca plug that allows you to connect speakers wires to it. I did and plugged the subwoofer into the "subwoofer out" on the back of my Sony STR 770 but nothing comes out. If I plug the subwoofer speaker wires directly to any other speaker out, the bass will come through. Any idea what I am doing wrong? thanks.

I have an old Sony Receiver STR-DE635 that does not have an HMDI. I can only use color-coded pins, an Optical audio cable, and a Coaxial digital chord. Is there a solution that I can still use my old receiver to hook up my DVD player and my 6 Bose speakers with my new TV that only has HDMI? Please help. Thanks. By the way, what is the Model number of the Sony receiver used in the demonstration?

When placing bluray with dolby true hd or dts hd Sony recognizes the signal but there is no gain in audio quality. It looks like it continues on the basic dolby or dts 5.1 Is this normal on this device? Does the reset solve? Any idea? Congratulations on the video.

Hi, I just replaced two RX-V377 Yamaha Receiver/Amps and have tested and confirmed the problem in both cases is the HMDI cards. While using one of the bad HDMI cards neither of the four units will power up. Using a good HDMI card and all four units work perfectly. Notice, "power up" is the issue. The power supplies to both "suspect units" tested perfectly.

From Yamaha, a new HMDI card is $169 and I ONLY paid $80 for the two complete units on ebay. Here is my thinking:
1. The "protection" circuits on the HMDI cards are not allowing the power supply to engage.
2. The vendors who sold me the replacement (Used) units likely had the same problem (Would not power up due to "a turned off HMDI unit" by the protection circuit).
3. Using a magnifing glass and good light, all four HDMI cards look exactly the same.
QUESTIONS:
a. How can I find a vendor/repair-place to repair the two inoperative HDMI cards?
b. How can I sell the two good amps with inoperative HDMI cards for $40 each plus $12 freight?
c. What other suggestions?

I can use the two inoperative units if the HDMI boards are repaired.
I appreciate. Jim.clayton at Claytonbank d--com. Thanks!

I have heard that connecting a mic to a receiver and then speakers can ruin your speakers. Home theater speakers are design for high fidelity at low volume, and Karaoke/PA speakers are designed for loud volume with a compromise in fidelity. Because of this, the sound spikes (especially if you drop the mic) can damage your home theater speakers.

Why do i have to connect the receiver with an HDMI and an optical calbe to the TV??
Whats the benefit doing it this way? I just use the HDMI cable and it works just fine.

have a Denon AVR-2309ci Going to a Old Panasonic Plasma TV. Love the TV. What I've found is that the Denon HDMI port says "monitor out" but does not say (ARC) but the old TV Does. Are they simply not compatible ? I cant seem to get video or audio out of any configuration using HDMI Nor the Optical. I'm seriously frustrated here as I just sold my HK AVR that worked fantastic, but I wanted the HDMI upgrade. maybe the used DENON is broken??

Thanks for the wonderful tutor explanation video but I like to ask you if you can help me to add the dual wireless mic to use in the same 5.1 home theatre setup for karaoke purpose. What kind of cable/s or other components do I need and where should I connect to which in the back of the ARV Receiver. Please help. Thanks again.

This is exactly what I was looking for. Is there a way to control the base of your sub mid movie or game section?
