Saline infusion sonohysterography imaging modality. It is a diagnostic test. So basically what we do here is with little bit of sedation we transfuse or infuse normal saline into the uterine cavity. So what happens here is the uterine cavity bulges because of the presence of the fluids. It helps us in diagnosis whether there is any polyps or extra growth in the uterus or if there is a submucous fibrosis or abnormality in the uterus can be picked up in this. This is one of the important thing. Secondly the saline which is pushed through the vagina into the uterus passes into the fallopian tubes and then it goes into the abdominal cavity stating that the tubes are open. So once we see the flow of saline into the abdominal cavity, we also can diagnose that the tubes are open. So basically it is a fertility evaluation test which tells us whether the uterine cavity is normal or if there are any abnormalities in the uterus. Secondly whether the tubes are open or not. So it helps us to determine how to treat the patient and how to help them conceive.
