The Nun: History of Sister Irene Palmer | Horror History

What is the connection between Sister Irene and The Conjuring's Lorraine Warren? I have the answer to that and the other mysteries of this character!

CONFESS YOUR SINS. Irene Palmer is the main protagonist of the Nun spin-off series, a part of the wider Conjuring franchise (The Conjurverse). When she was originally cast to Taissa Farmiga, real life sister of Vera Farmiga (who plays Lorraine Warren), speculation immediately began to swirl about who this character really is. Was this a younger version of Lorraine, a sister, or possibly another relative altogether?

The Nun and The Nun 2 contain little clues that we can use to piece together the history of Sister Irene and start to answer some of the questions of her backstory.

In this video I'll be going over the entire timeline of Irene, from her troubled childhood, to her adventure at the Abbey of St. Carta in Biertan, Romania, to her years as a nun and finally, her last known confrontation with Valak in Tarascon, France.

I'll also be analyzing her relationships to other characters like Frenchie, Father Burke, Cardinal Conroy and Father Ridley -- as well as the less friendly relations with the ancient evil demon: Valak, the defiler.

Finally, I'll be discussing where she fits into the horror genre and why I was disappointed with the further development of her character in The Nun 2 and how it could have been better by taking cues from the Insidious franchise. This is the ultimate guide to Sister Irene Palmer!

I actually thought that sister irene was Lorraine's ancestor but seeing they both exist at the same time gives me hope that they would meet

So does no one feel bad for Frenchie? My man didn’t deserve all that. Even with valvak being destroyed twice he still had evil laying dormant in him.

The part with valak floating with the light behind him is like a reverse of the images of Saint Mary using floating and a light behind her, but instead valak is taking on that image but the dark version.

That bar scene over getting the key from her cold, dead hands was hilarious, lol. Perfect acting!

Hi there! Valak burns with the wine because according to catholic tradition, during a very specific part of the mass, transubstantiation takes place converting the wine into the “literal” blood of Christ; they very shallowly explain the same in the movie itself 👀👀 But great video, you really take your time to make them and it shows!!!! Kudos!!!❤❤

when sister irene was burning and saw lorraine in her visions, i interpreted it as sister irene seeing that she is not the one destined to take down valak, she knows that after her encounter with valak, valak would still be around as it would be Lorraine's job to destroy the demon, hence why she looked at frenchie somewhat disturbed and scared in the last scene.

I noticed that the struggle that Sister Irene faces is Acceptance. It was a theme in the first movie with her acceptance into her faith and taking on her vows to become a Nun, and this film it was the acceptance of her past and what had happened to her mother. There is also the acceptance of revelation that she is of the descendants of Saint Lucy. Accepting her gifts of sight. It was only then that the flames couldn’t touch her. There was also the acceptance that she wouldn’t be the one to take down Valek.

“Imagine if you were dating a girl and then she decided to become a Nun.”
As a Catholic girl who has heard many We broke up since they felt called to become a Priest/ Nun stories, I have only seen exs get salty if the person left before final vows and married someone else. 😒 We usually just say “God gets all the good ones” and take it in stride.😅

Calling him Frenchie Valak make me think of Valak taking over Frenchie from the musical grease

perfect timing. Also, it would be weird calling them a murder of nuns.

I think its possible that one of the reasons valak targeted and tormented Lorraine years later with visions of Ed Warren's death is because the demon must know or at least thinks theres a relation between irene and lorraine in-universe and thus is another descendant of st lucy

Hi CZ. I think you must see the big easter egg in the credit scene, the part where the Tree of St. Lucy's descendant is shown, there's a glimpse of the bloodline in one of a branch. It says Georgiana Moran first and then Lorraine's name. (It's like a kind of blink-and you missed it). It seems to confirmed that Irene and Lorraine is related by St. Lucy bloodline

I know these movies got so-so reviews but I really enjoy the settings (esp part 2), atmosphere and set designs. I grew up in the late 80s early 90s as an altar boy in a 75 year old catholic church. We had free reign of the place and we loved scary ourselves silly exploring the bell tower and cavernous catacomb-like basement

I am not Christian and from Asia so lot of these Christian and cultural, regional details just go over my head.
Hence, your video helps a lot to understand the story. The details are interesting and give more depth to stories. Thank you very much.

Can you please make a video on the book Lesser Key of Solomon. It's seems to be great influence in horror pop culture of America. Explaining it's background and the content.
