Where is the LIE?! 😂🤣 I feel that the UK takes into consideration what a person's strengths are and points them in that direction whereas here in the States, we give the kids no actual directions on ANYTHING!! I barely figured out what I wanted to do but then had to settle for something else because what I wanted to do was too expensive!!

So true, in England. I really like our system. I do appreciate being allowed to drop the things we don't enjoy or struggle with and focus on our strengths.

As someone from the US, I want to sue the school system

As a Brit, I can confirm, this is 100% accurate 😂

Seriously. As an American, I had no idea what I wanted to do when I finished high school.

When I first came to the UK I was surprised to learn that my 20 year old flatmate decided not to go to university and to just begin working in editing. I come from a society that thinks not going to college/uni is something only really poor or uneducated people do, so it was a real culture shock for me 😅 but then I understood the system. It all made sense 😊 She’s doing just fine, and is happier with her choice.

I am actually so grateful of A levels

Honestly, thankyou Britain for exporting your sensible education to us even if it was by a *cough* force

As a British person I’m actually so grateful we have a proper education system where if we don’t do well in one subject we have plenty others to choose from rather than having an average and if you fail one subject suddenly your average is terrible and nobody will want to hire you, and I’m glad that they actually help us to recognise which career we want to go into, too.

But even with all of that, us Brits still have no idea what we want to do 😅

Bro as an American teenager finishing up high school, the British school sounds great- I wish I had more opportunities to explore what I wanted to do without paying thousands of dollars for a major that could end up changing down the line 😭

I kinda agree with the European system on this, instead of averaging all of a child's scores together, find out where the child excels and fast track them toward it. That way if a kid struggles with a subject, they can actually work on it through their life time, instead compacting it together into a few years. Work smarter not hard.

as someone living in america, im so glad my dad is teaching me about financial literacy and the stock market. the first thing he taught me was that school is important, but it just teaches you how to be an employee.

Britain also has ✨foundation programmes✨ for international students who wanna study in a British uni but their school program and English profiency level differs from what's expected from a kid who just passed A-levels. As an international student I find this amazing

I went to university in the UK for my final year degree, and as a foreign student, i might dare say I learnt more in the one year there compared to the 3 years I was doing my diploma to degree in my own country.

And I got to thank the lecturer who was also the head of business studies. He made a powerful short speech to us foreign students before graduation, to not waste our education and youth after graduating to work in some restaurant job just to stay in UK, but rather go back to our countries and create jobs for our people, and teach our future generations.

As a Canadian, I would've loved this system. It sounds so much more practical.

In general, I think most school systems worldwide honestly need a rework, mostly the US cuz nobody is interested, there's no direction for what you need, and education isn't based on personal struggles/needs such as geometry as to calculus being more confusing(btw I think opposite, geometry was so fun and easy. Basically learning shapes)

Counter argument: the UK has GCSEs which are bad for a student’s mental health. US has more extra curricular which boosts social development

2nd point: GPA is better than exams because if a student is ill during exam week or their nan dies or whatever, their GPA is still ok

Finally, A Levels are harder than university and are unnecessary in my opinion. In the US they have AP programs, which I think the UK should adopt

LOOOL yess this is so true for America. I had a meeting with my US friends and of them was shocked that we can choose professional schools (like medicine and pharmacy) straight out of high school, meanwhile they have to go to college first and then get into the actual professional school😂
