We enjoyed The Door in the Wall. We tried it twice and Katie didn’t like it when she was younger (like 4th) but really did like it in 7th. I think it was a little harder to understand when she was younger.

The Sir Lancelot the Great book is so fun. My girls loved it.

Song for a whale is an amazing book! We went down a huge rabbit trail and learned all about Blue 55, you can even hear it’s sound on YT.

The Ark, the Reed & the Fire Cloud is an awesome book by Jenny Cote. It's the story of being called to the Ark from the animal's perspective.

We are a read aloud family! I've graduated 2 and included read alouds thru 12th grade. It's a part of our family dynamics❤ great choices. This year we're reading aloud Boy of the Pyramids, The Saracen Steed, The Three Gold Doubloons, Through the Wall and The Kingdom series

Hi Megan! We Read Little Pear last year. He is always getting into trouble 🤣🤣🤣 Song for a Whale was really good. We really enjoyed it. We have the Complete Shakespear book as well. Plan on diving in this year. Thanks for more great read aloud ideas! I may or may not have a book problem 🤪🤣 (Ps.. I was The Homeschooling Grammy 😁)

How fun! I'm posting out choices tomorrow. :-) We love pairing our read aloud with history and looks like we have a few crossovers.

Thank you so much for doing this video with me! I'm excited to hear what you decide on Samurai's Tale as I have it as a possible for next year. As always, you have great recommendations, Megan!

My kids are very young, 4 and under, so we are doing smaller and simple read alouds. We want to do Charley and the Chocolate Factory, the first Narnia, Magic Tree House, Little House series, Mrs Piggle-Wiggle, King Arthur, Robin Hood, Wind in the Willows, and maybe a few more

For a medieval read aloud, we liked Adam of the Road more than The Door in the Wall. (Maybe we'll try that one again when the kids are both older. And we will read Adam of the Road again.) The Knights Tales are great but I think you appreciate them more if you are older and/or already know a fair amount about King Arthur, the knights, etc. Thanks for the other book ideas!

The Samurai's Tale is an amazing book, but it took forever to get through as a read aloud. I did the Core Knowledge Japan history unit with it.

Great choices! We have a couple in common! We picked up Song for a Whale recently, and I’m really looking forward to reading it.

We are doing Bookshark Level D history so we have a lot of scheduled read alouds in it:
The Sign of the Beaver
The Witch of Blackbird Pond
Johnny Tremain
Toliver’s Secret
Carry on, Mr. Bowditch
Justin Morgan Had a Horse
Secret of the Sealed Room
The White House is Burning
The Story of the Amistad
Peacemaker
Alamo All-Stars

I also do a bedtime read aloud that’s not connected to our history. We are listening to The Hobbit right now and we will keep working on the Bookwanderers series.

Thank you so much for this video. It sounds like we are on the same page with our readings, time period we'll be studying for history, etc. I've purchase The Door In The Wall, Song For A Whale and The Hobbit for this upcoming school year and will check out your other recommendations. Best to you! 🍃

We liked the Princess and The Goblin!! It’s a bit slow at first, but keep at it and you’ll get sucked into the story 😃

I picked up some Shakespeare this year as well. My children have not been exposed to it yet, so we will see how that goes. On our list we have A long Walk to Water, Esperanza Rising, Wish, One and Only Ivan and Black Beauty. I try to keep it to half a dozen or so, because I know as the year progresses the kids may have new interests. I try to leave plenty of time open and not feel overwhelmed as though I have to read them. They are there if we get to them. Thanks for the ideas!
