Dogs can maintain perfectly healthy locs! The lice comment was in reference to the locs being formed via outside neglect in the dirt!

I’m Trinidadian & when i was younger one of my family members out there had a dog with a couple dreads on his head and beard lol, very unique & cool to see !
* the dreads were very well maintained and clean too * & They were a little thinner than the average sized pinky.

Their called Puli’s. Their locs aka “coils” or “cords” matte naturally due to a contrast of their inner coat/outer coat textures. It’s the owners responsibility to separate or part them as you see them matte so they’re even, otherwise they do look like this makes it hard to get air, move, & lice risk like you said
