Wow! wham bam conclusion! I’ve listened to all the reviews for this game thus far. How you squeeze all that information, and more(!), more clearly and incredibly compacted, makes me think that arcane powers are at play. Subscribed!

Nice overview as usual Nersi but I think I'll stick with my 2nd Ed. If I didn't have that would I? I think like someone else mentioned I'd be greatly concerned with the time spent in the app and would probably give this a miss.

I played the first 3 or 4 scenarios with a buddy. Even though you're right about the focus on the app (a point also mentioned by Rob on his Tabletop World), we didn't really find it all that immersion breaking or a negative in any way. AND...having played all of the FFG app driven games, there was never a point where we couldn't figure out what the AI should be doing (looking right at you, Imperial Assault lol), which really made things easier. As for the artwork, I'm not a fan...I like the "traditional" are style that games set in Terrinoth all have, so this new art is kind of "meh" to me. Unfortunately for this new Descent, we took a break to try out Middara, which hasn't left the table since haha. Normally, I'd be happily playing either one (with Descent being far less of a brain burner than Middara in terms of stuff you need to keep track of, in part because the app tracks most of that for you), but I can't afford to give up 2 tables at the same time :). I think this is a good game, based on what I've seen from it, and if FFG supports it well (I think they've already announced an expansion), I think it will keep growing in popularity. I will definitely go back to it at some point.

Great overview as always. I just started getting into Gloomhaven with my son, but had always liked Descent's previous iterations. Are the two pretty comparable, minus the app, do you think? Or is there room for both in the collection?

The dungeons are easy to assemble. The set up of the pieces does take about an hour and half. But then Its easy to store. The first quest took a bout an hour and a half and easily explained how to play. Im less of a fan of the inbetween crafting and purchasing of items. But it is better than using victory points for card upgrades. This game is act 1 according to multiple spots on the box and i look forward to playing the expansions as they come out.

Seems like a mixed bag. Really not sure how I feel about a game where you spend more time looking at the screen than the board. But I’m a sucker for innovation, so….
