Many know Jimi as a blazing rock guitarist. Few know that he started as a blues artist while still a teenager.

It was literally a *RELIEF* when you noticed those little things that always make such an emotional impact when you're listening to Jimi. Things most people just miss. Always good to see another person who gets it. 🙏🏼

Jimi Hendrix's mainstream career spanned only four years but he is considered one of the most influential electric guitarists in the history of popular music. Sadly he died at the age of only 27. He headlined the famous Woodstock Festival in 1969. He had a lot of great songs such as "Purple Haze", "Hey Joe", "Foxy Lady", "The Wind Cries Mary", "All Along The Watchtower" etc.

So wish he made a blues acoustic album! The more time passes the more his death is more and more tragic… what could have been..

The first is from a documentary about Hendrix that I think came out in 1973. The second is brand new to me.

I remember the first time I saw this in the early 70s I blown away by the 12 string and Jimi.

The 1st video was in 1967 during the shooting of a promotional film about the Jimi Hendrix Experience. There was a 12 string acoustic guitar there and they asked Jimi if he could play acoustic because they only knew him as an electric guitarist. The 2nd clip was in his bedroom in England with his then Girlfriend Kathy Etchingham and friends.

this was the first time Jimi had seen, let alone played a 12 string. the guitar was completely improvised on the spot! genius doesn't even come close to describing him!

This is beautiful. To know just how gifted Jimi was, even BB King could not sing and play his guitar at the same time. A true musical genius. Jimi and his guitar were one, and his voice is simply a perfect fit. Ten blocks up the street from all other musical artists, on a completely different level. How I miss Jimi. Nothing even close to his magic in 50 years.

The later footage is at Jimi's flat in London. I think Kathy Mary Etchingham, Jimi's English girfriend was there too. Jimi is just jamming for fun. So gifted.

Underneath it all, Jimi was a bluesman through and through. Of all the blues related rock acts of the 60's, Jimi was one of few who really truly understood Delta Blues. This acoustic rendition of "Hear my Train A Comin'" is pretty traditional, but "Voodoo Chile" (not the more commonly played "Slight Return") and "Machine Gun" are both prime examples of Jimi's own incendiary version of Delta Blues that are more than worth listening to.

No matter how I'm feeling, sleepy, happy, pissed on off irritated lost in space. Every time I see and hear this cut I stop in my tracks and just listen to what causes my eyes to tear up. I can't help but wonder what planet earth has dreadfully and sadly missed by his passing so early. As I think about Jimi to this day there hasn't or isn't a more complex and amazing guitarist who's also so simple all without a sign of ego. Long may you live Jimi, play on .

Thank you so much for sharing these great videos. I saw Jimi play 3 times. The first time I was actually in the front row, right in front of him (pure luck!). I met him at a club in 1968 where he was sitting with Buddy Miles and the Express. He was my hero, and I miss him still!

As one...(a left hander, guitarist/bassist/fill in) Jimi Hendrix was an inspiration to me. Although I'm a drummer. But, picked up an upside down restrung acoustic guitar, played the shite out of it, then got a 4 string bass, with a mini amp, restrung it, and LMAO, ugh, the time me and some friends were "smoking"...and I sat at the piano they had, started playing it, somehow... Anyway....

I saw Jimi Hendrix in concert in 1970 in Kansas City. But it was with the whole band and electric.

In my estimation, two best guitarist of last 55 years were Jimi and Stevie Ray Vaughn. Perhaps not coincidentally, both were in love with the blues, which they then translated to rock/soul/pop music.

Most of us mortals are working to achieve the guitar part when playing a song but this guy had the guitar playing down so pat, he could be spontaneously creative and play with the technical challenge of producing technically difficult music. He was a brash performer but humble in how he underplayed his guitar mastery.
