A totally unexpected experience with an electric guitar: different, deep, complex … Bach-esque. I will surely return to it!

Here’s the link to the original song by Jimi Hendrix:

The problem with listening to this song with modern ears is that we're used to listening to generations of Hendrix-influenced guitarists. Part of the magic of Hendrix is that he was getting sounds out of his Fender Stratocaster that hadn't been heard before. Yes, people had used similar effects on their guitars but few had combined them with the techniques he used, his overall sound was unique. When Hendrix came on the scene many of the renowned guitarists of the time were falling over themselves to see him live, he was such a sensation.

This is a masterpiece because Hendrix was able to express his ideas clearly using all his skills without dwelling on technique. He shifted from one sound to the next without letting technique get in the way.

"I don't know if I've ever heard a guitar sound quite like this..." Amy's first words after hearing Hendrix for the first time. Enough said.

Jimi called his band The Experience for good reason. No words needed just experience the music.

I saw Hendrix play 3 times and met him once . He was THE GREATEST!!! Your eyebrows tell the whole story! I love Bach, and I worshipped Jimi!

Jimi Hendrix was one of those rare people where there is no barrier between what goes on in his head and what comes out of his guitar. He probably dreamt in guitar.

Not sure how I stumbled on this but.... as a longtime disciple of Hendrix I was pleasantly surprised how she really connected with the soul of the music. Most modern listeners miss the greatness of Jimi by focusing on the technique only but she obviously listens with her heart as she immediately picked up on the incredible depth of emotion behind notes. I like this lady!

The single greatest performance on an electric guitar is Jimi Hendrix playing Machine Gun with the Band of Gypsies at the Filmore East. It's recorded live for the Band of Gypsies album. All of the versions from that NYE/New Years Day performance are on Songs for Groovy Children. There is also video footage of the performance. It's mind blowing stuff. Jimi makes the sounds of guns firing, shells whistling through the air, explosions, crying, ambulance in keeping with the theme of the song, while ripping some solos that can't be believed.

For a long-standing Hendrix fan this review is a pure joy and honor of the Master. Thank you.

You really need to watch a video of him doing this. His performance is half of the magic.

I've listened to Voodoo Chile literally thousands of times, but even now is an existential experience. So glad Amy seemed to feel it

Jimi said something to the effect of "we're not just trying to play loud, but to play so that the sound goes into the soul of the person, maybe we can wake them up, there's so many sleeping people." Nailed it, it's all about the expression with Jimi. Pure sonic empathy and emotion communicated universally through his sounds that are beyond just playing. That's why Jimi will forever be the greatest.

Jimis control, flow and vibrato will never be matched, he takes every note through its deepest feeling. The long version with Stevie Winwood is a masterpiece also.

He was a force of nature for sure.
The entire time that Jimi Hendrix even held a guitar was 12 years.
From when he got his first one in 1958 until his passing in 1970.
In 12 years he went from novice to legend. Something else to consider when talking about the man.

We have to consider that this is a band of three. all the guitar we listen are performed by one single person, the rest is bass rhythm and percussion. A band with only three instruments, not five or twenty, able to fill the space and in this way is always remarkable to me.

Electric Ladyland is by FAR my favorite Jimi Hendrix album. Not only was Jimi on fire creatively, but Eddie Kramer's engineering work was nothing short of brilliant - resulting in an otherworldly masterpiece!

WHAT A GREAT REVIEW! I've been a Hendrix fan since before I saw him live in 1970. Jimi was not and still is not the fastest or most precise player in the game. But while many players play to your ears, Jimi touches your soul. He was one of a kind. He was a great player, songwriter, and entertainer. More importantly, he was a messenger, spreading the message of love. That's why he is the GOAT. Check out the version of this song he played at Woodstock. Best version, imo.

Now that we are on Jimi, All Along the Watchtower is another huge hit that would be cool to examine because it is actually Dylan's song—and Dylan's version is quite different.

As an old Hendrix & Bach suite One fan, "YOU NAILED IT"! I've always was open to see who could best describe many of Hendrix's incredible and compare music moments, and you did it. Thank You, Dan
