I think that it's huge for Amex to add these perks. I am team Amex, however I don't believe that Amex is king just yet. If the airline credit was changed to a travel credit, then they would be king. Nevertheless, this is a big deal! Great video man!

Team Amex here. The trip delay and cancellation insurance felt like one of the important aspects missing from them. My question is does the trip delay apply to each ticket (3 tickets and each person gets 500-300 dollar benefit) or is it just for that single booking transaction (just 500-300 dollars regardless of the number of purchased tickets).

Yea Walt...this one is a long time coming that's for sure. I'm sure you had a great time making this video especially after all the crap I gave Amex for not offering protection on their Platinum card. LOL! I can't lie, I'm happy to see Amex make this move....especially on the heels of Citi ripping every benefit possible from all of their cards.


I've never had the Amex Platinum and probably still won't unless they toss one of those 100k offers my way.



Here's why. With my Ritz Carlton Visa Infinite card (by Chase) I get trip delay and cancellation protection regardless of being a one-way or round trip. I also get Primary coverage on rentals, a generous $300 travel credit, a 50k award night at Marriott properties every year, suite night awards, AND $100 discount on any companion round trip domestic airline ticket with unlimited use...which means if I play the game right I can score round trip tickets for 2 for a little over a hundred bucks depending on the route.


Oh, and I still get the emergency evac if needed, medical and dental, bag delay and loss coverage, accident insurance, roadside, and Priority Pass lounges INCLUDING restaurants...all still for $100 less than the Amex Platinum AND it doesn't cost a cent for authorized users.



You knew I had to go there...LOL! But yea man, all jokes aside, this is a nice change for Amex...but I can't lie, still not enough for me to give up the Ritz Carlton by Chase which also earns 3x (albeit Marriott points) on airlines, dining, and car rentals. While it doesn't earn 5x on flights I can still transfer 3:1 on Marriott points to almost all major airlines so its still a win there.


Happy for all the Amex Platinum fans though...this is definitely a win for them.
