Portuguese had a lot of influence from Galician. The language's roots go back to ancient peoples, such as the Iberians, Celts and, more precisely, the Romans. A curiosity - Brasil is the Portuguese way of writing the name of the South American country; there was a Celtic legend about a mythical island called Hy-Brasil, which many thought was the place when they arrived in Brazil.

I’ve found there are so many different ways Brazlians use “ficar.” To stay, to come out as in “how did it come out?” It’s almost used like ser, “to be.”

haha, , Devagar, Por Favor :)
the thing that gets me about Port verbs is the base is almost never used. Ser.... permanent state of being. Eu Sou, Voce e, Ela/Ele e and so on. same thing for almost every verb i have seen yet. Estar you never see. it's Estou, Este, esta, estamos, estao. Probably the most confusing thing about learning Portuguese for an English speaker

may I ask two more: how do you call a dog to "come" to you? how to tell it to "go" with you (instead of staying behind)?

I have been practicing portuguese with my dog. But I have been doing it wrong, saying "chegar" for "come". I think this more closely works for spanish's Llegar than the Português Chegar. I say "vai por la" for the second.
