I'm german and I think "Hallo" is now more common than "Guten Tag" etc. so it's not only used by friends. Mostly in every store you're shopping seller/employees will say "Hello."

It's a bit different from what I've learned in Kontakte Deutsch book. Like, "you're welcome" is "bitte schoen" not "gern geschehen", but sometimes i find the word "gern" to reply "danke" too, so i guess it's not a problem. Your video is awesome, pretty clear and educative.
