Scam in Rome

Rome, Italy. This guy was sitting in his car by the river. He pretended he was lost. He had a map and we showed him where he was. He said he was from northern Italy. Then he said he works for Armani and had free samples for us. I was believing his story until then. That's when I started recording. Not sure if he was planning on grabbing my wallet if I took it out or was trying to sell the "free samples" in a round about way. I wish I had the very beginning on film.

So he took the free samples back because you had no cash. Strange free sample concept he has :)

i hate his certainty during the end when he thinks he's already scammed the couple.

Wow. The face he makes when you say "i don't have any cash" is hilarious. From a very pleasant man to a rude and disappointed one.

I was in Roma a few months ago and this exact guy did this to me! I told him where i was from in Australia and all of a sudden half his family lives in my city and he loves it there. His reaction when i told him i had no money was much the same as in this video haha

How can people do this? Even if I didn't care about ripping people off, morally, I can't imagine it wouldn't be stressful as shit to do this to make a living. I would make a horrible con artist, I would probably rob a bank before I could come anywhere close to bringing myself to do this.

Very old scam.
This is how it works: the scammer presents himself as a very rich man, big car, nice clothes, etc.; he then conquers the trust of the victim, gives them the counterfeit luxurious stuff as a 'present' for a supposed very high value (in the video he says 'two thousand and five hundred euro') and then he finally demands in exchange some money, for this or that reason... even 'only' a hundred euro or two, in order to fill the gas tank of his big car, just like in the video. He is ready to accept even less than that: being the 'valuable gifts' worth only some 10s of euros, when he is able to obtain even 80 or 70 euro his net profit will still be very good.
I am sure that this old and experienced scammer accelerated the game when he understood that you were not going to "buy" his story, and besides he knew that he was on video so he was just wasting time with you while exposing himself to unnecessary danger... otherwise he would have been much more insistent than this!

Its so disgusting. Things like that really ruin your holiday and make you think the place is rotten at the core.

This guy's a expert at this. Probably has done this all his life. Soon as he realises he's getting nothing he just grabs the goods and gets the hell out of there.

He tried this on me and my wife on our honeymoon, we were just about to head into the modern art museum and he claimed to be a representative of Ferrari, told me his wife was from Dublin (we're Irish) and was absolutely raging when I challenged his concept of "free"

Never ever thought I would see this guy again! We were there by the river in 2016. He tried the same with us and gave us an item and then said he was running out of fuel and needed money. I offered him 5 Euros for the item but he was annoyed and said no so I told my wife to give him back the item but he snatched the note out of my hand and drove off. I was lucky it was only 5 Euros as his sticky little fingers were getting very close to my wallet. Considering this video is from 2014 and we saw him in 2016 then it shows its worth his while to keep doing it.
