kinda suprised not to see dt770/990 even mentioned as an honorable mention, great headphones as entry level. for me personally, the dt770 is where it all started for me.

I'd love to see a "Best Closed Back Headphones" list

Got my DT 1990 in the mail today. It almost as good as my Elex but in some ways it's superior and certainly more intimate. At first with the analytical pads it sounded overly bright with average bass but once you brain sorts out the frequencies it is simply fantastic. Detail for days and build wise it is a masterpiece of metal and leather/pleather.

Next time insert images of the headphones in the edit. Cool topic!

Honestly imo the superlux line are a great bang for your buck. Sound is amazing and can compete with the headphones up until the hd58x. That's when the hd58x blow them out (this is all my opinion!)

I can't be bothered with free earphones, earphones start to bug me after having them in my ears for half an hour

Hey man, I love your videos! Here goes some headphones I really think you should review (a lot of people would agree with me):
-Akg 240
-Beyerdynamic DT 770
-Audio Technica M50x
These are pretty popular and relatively cheap.
Thanks!

I never hear Audio Technica in any videos. I love my ATH-AD1000x.

In my opinion you would have to buy the headphones first before you can know if you like them or not.

The $100 - 150 range is probably the best balance of value and performance.

It also represents the first step into "good sound" (this is subjective) for most music lovers starting out into quality listening.

Just my opinion

I would say that the best value for audio work is the Sony MDR7506.

Free headphones - The beater car your uncle gave you for free. It's a terrible car, it might break down, but it beats walking.
$20 headphones - Econo-box base model. It's not glamorous, but it's in good shape and is dependable, can be fun.
$150 headphones - Asian sedan. Also dependable, offers some nice creature comforts, but you aren't afraid to leave it on the street overnight.
$350 headphones - German sedan. Very nice place to be, not going to turn heads, but it's a very comfortable way to proceed across the landscape.
$1000 headphones - Italian sportscar. This is not your daily driver. It is very specialized and needs a special place to stay. Strangers ask you about and/or compliment it.
$2000+ headphones - European hypercar. Performance is actually secondary at this level. Status symbol. Strangers ask questions about you rather than the car.

Hey, the economic bulshitting in the beginning is quite unnecessary. No, the free shit is not better value than something I pay for, if I can borrow someone's good headphones. The problem with these ideas that justify incredibly bullshit ideas, such as the idea that because these are good value due to diminishing return, let's just ignore the incredible waste the headphone markets are producing, since it's capitalism, right? can't be wasteful by definition! Free is always better than nothing, even if you suffocate in waste...

Koss Porta Pro were my first non included headphones and were amazing sound but not the best build quality. Today I would say the Blon 03 would be my choice of phone audio.

Sony's MDR-7506 is a great value, consistently under $100 new. It is definitely up to snuff for professional editing use, and is a pretty enjoyable "analytic" headphone besides.

Free headphones I think are debatable, because to some they are an ordeal because they are uncomfortable and so tinny it hurts your ears.

In those cases, I would say it represents a negative value, and it's not worth the space it takes up in your pocket.
