The line "but hes supposed to be mine" sounds so childish and innocent. Its my favorite line

the fact she sounds better live than on her recording of this song is unreal

No autotune, no pitch correction. It's called hard work and dedication. Love that voice.

The fact that this song is so boppy and cheerful sounding, but it’s actually about her boyfriend asking out another girl during her birthday party. Like damn girl I would cry too

Her eyes were mesmerising even in black and white! Love listening to her songs a lot. Can't help not to feel joy every single time!

I never realized how pretty she was. Natural talent, great voice, great stage prescense. An american original. Wow how much the recording industry has gone down the toilet since then. I remember listening to her on cklw in detroit on a transistor radio. She was a hit.

She died in 2015, I wish she got to see her song become so popular again after so many years (was #1 in '63) this is an iconic masterpiece.

"You would cry too if it happened to you". That line will hit you hard if you ever went through a heartbreak before. The song is simply soulful.

i have to say, from someone who used to listen to melanie a lot, both of these songs, lesleys and “pity party” are both very beautifully sung and well written with flawless meanings.

Lesley was an excellent business woman, she owned her publishing and was able to make a nice living unlike many artists in those days.
