I love complex issues that have multiple arguments of value. The demonetization hullabaloo is one such issue!

I have issues with the fact that so many of us on YouTube not only treat it as a hobby, but a second job..or in some cases a full time job and their automated system sees those keywords and scraps any income to that video. Every single one of my videos over current events (shootings) speaking in both directions aren't eligible for monetization, but still have ads within the video.

#QOTD I pretty much agree with your stance on the subject.. The writing has been on the wall they are a private company... I just wonder how gun channels will be effected. like hickok etc

#QOTD I guess in between the Vlogs and in my case the 8 hour lobby chat, we can just put up 20 to 30 second videos titled "cutest dog in the world", or in your case where you talk while driving to work...title 1 as "shocking video of the largest freeway pile-up", then show a 20 second video of someone changing a tire, we can go with people's searches for views and hope the video is over before they realize it was a trap video.

#QOTD From a pure capitalistic point of view, youtube can do whatever they want, it's their infrastructure and labor that keeps the medium going. They are not forcing anyone to upload videos. I just know there is a huge hypocrisy in their picking and choosing who they decide can and can't monetize their "controversial" content all the while they are still collecting revenue from the non-monetized content. It is a reality that a "Big time" youtuber (like Hickok 45) will get a pass on "controversial" content, but us little people will get hammered, but ads will still be placed with our content and youtube will still get paid. How do they decide what is controversial or not? At any given time of day someone is offended by any given video that is monetized on youtube, so no one should be able to monetize a video using that criteria. But like I said, it is their system and they can do whatever they want.

it will hurt the start up channels as they transition from hobby to part time job but your right the really big channels should already be fine. if you are doing youtube as a job you should know the rules you have to play within just like a radio show or tv news. i really cant stand when people call this censorship because they aren't blocking the videos just not giving money for content that they dont want to pay for. you dont have a right to fords money and force them to advertise on your video.

#QOTD: Perhaps Youtube may segment its website into different levels of access and rating i.e.: adult and G-rated youtube channels. This way they continue to keep their creators, but viewers have a choice to subscribe with pay to play options. what say you?

#QOTD Not sure how I feel about the issue. On one hand I am all for the rights of a company to operate the way they want to, but on the other hand YouTube and other social media sights are the modern barbershop or water cooler. The free exchange of information has moved from public forums to private and we are losing some of our freedoms as a result. Also a company who does not wish to be associated with a certain topic/content type should have the ability to restrict what videos there ads are shown on. If I build solar Panels, I probably don't want adds for wind turbines on my videos. I believe it is a mistake to demonetize a video based on topic and may hurt them in the long run. Instead a filtering system based on tags might be a better solution. Of corse there are the political views of the companies that are running the social media sights themselves. They have rights as am on my phone and Hydrocodone, so that's my excuse for whatever I just said.

#QOTD I'm not saying that they will, but if they do start pushing for more restrictions on what can and can't be monetized, there is not a whole lot we can do about it. Youtube, and Google for that matter is to big to fail, and their presence alone crushes competition. There are a lot of things that Google does that I don't agree with and seriously make me consider taking my money else where. But what are my alternatives? Microsoft? Apple? Not a whole lot of choice there.

Yeah, the gun community pushed away a little with Full30 but at the same time, where do big gun channels post most of their content? Full30 or Youtube?

We can form our own video sites, we can build our own search engines, we can start our own smart phone lines or integrated cloud storage. But in the end we will never be as successful, popular, or effective as Google, Microsoft, or Apple, and there really isn't a whole lot we can do about it.

Maybe somewhere down the road, the bubble will burst. I doubt it, but maybe. To big to fail companies stagnate the market. We can't have new ventures if they're killed before they can even start taking any market share.

#QOTD I can see both sides. Funniest one i saw and wanted to comment on, but i knew he wouldn't respond. Wranglerstar had an ad at the begging of one of his videos, it was a television series about the devil (i think it was Lucifer?), a partial comedy series. I don't think he would appreciate that, but I'm sure he didn't demonetize that video because of that, even though I'm sure ads are ran at (somewhat) random. Flip side; It's their world, you play by their rules. Luckily for me, I only upload for personal entertainment, I have very little subs (why I have any is beyond me), and i do not monetize my vids. If I owned a YouTube platform, I would want the most videos, with the most revenue that i could get. With the exception of Death, conspiracy of death, deliberate mutilation of people or animals, XXX, common sense kind of stuff.
