Description:
The use of video-conferencing software and online platforms has brought many parts of the world closer together and has enabled audiovisual communication with greater ease than ever before. As with other technological developments, there are both advantages and disadvantages associated with video-conferencing and the rapid transmission of information. Prior to the outbreak of COVID-19, there was still considerable pushback regarding the efficacy of online applied music lessons. In this webinar NYOC Alumni Dr. Bryan Holt and TSO Principal Flutist Kelly Zimba will walk you through the ins and outs of online teaching. They will cover a variety of subjects, including the history of distance learning, studio setup, connection speeds, lesson preparation, pitfalls and the various methods of teaching via the internet. Online learning occurs both synchronously (real-time video-conferenced lessons) and asynchronously (video exchange learning and lesson libraries). There will also be discussion of the modifications teachers should consider when teaching online, including the use of concise language, visual aids and the curation of online resources. Whether you are experienced or new to web based teaching, this discussion will be sure to help enhance your online experience for both your students and yourself.
