Indian-Origin doctor in the US punished for keeping two Indians as servants

Dr. Harsha Sahni, an Indian-American doctor from Colonia, New Jersey, has permanently lost her medical license and will soon start serving a 27-month prison sentence. She was found guilty of illegally recruiting and exploiting two Indian women, making them work as housekeepers in her home for very low pay.

In india people dont even know that its illegal..every middle income household in india has a servant working 24/7 with no employee rights at all..and its very common for Indians living outside india as well..

This is quite a standard practice in many parts of India, where girls including minors, from disadvantaged and Aadivasi families are employed for household jobs on very nominal pay. The law enforcement looks the other way, since some of them are guilty of the same misdeeds.

I am Indian, been living in Europe but there is Rule you need to give them minimal wages, medical insurance, and freedom of communication and mobility and abide by local labour laws. If you can’t pls don’t hire help or don’t go to a country where you can’t abide by local law and respect ( our pple think they are so smart by cheating the system no wonder coz this mindset India which has potential is in such poor state).

I went to a dentist in India. His office was infested with mosquitoes. He thought it was a waste of money to invest in mossie nets and repellent yet he was always going abroad for holidays. I found this mentality bizarre. He made lots of money and there was Hundi in his office for Tripati Venkatachalapy temple.

She definetly deserves jail time. Its extremely sad to see so called highly educated people not treating other human beings well 😢😢and not giving proper salaries. I am happy to see justice given to those two house helpers.
