Max is definitely going to be stuck in Vecna's mind Nightmare on Elm Street Dreamwalker style. If El is able to remote travel to Vecna's mind while he is distracted she may be able to return Max's soul to her body. Meanwhile, I think Vecna may be able to puppeteer Max's body, like Regan in the exorcist, to try and finish her off so that the curse cannot be reversed and Max has no body to escape back to.

I think i have a pretty reasonable theory:

Sadie sink, the actress who plays max is getting paid a whopping 7 million dollars for season 5. Max is definitely going to be a main part of season 5, so she has hope. I think that we are going to see max running from vecna while in his mind. We also may get a glimpse of vecnas other victims. (Barb, bob, billy, Eddie, Chrissy, Fred, Patrick) Remember, he is the leader of a hive mind, he controls all of the creatures in the upside down. (Everyone killed by an upside down monster could be seen in season 5 if my theory is correct. My theory being that we’d see max in vecnas mind.) I don’t think that max will stay in a coma, she is strong and she can find a way with elevens help. Max doesn’t necessarily have to be brain dead, even though eleven couldn’t find her. El was probably not in her best state, she lost her best friend and was trying her hardest but she was still grieving. Vecna could’ve also been guarding Max’s mind so that it’s hard for eleven to find her. Sooo when vecna is off guard, eleven needs to try to find max then. I don’t know how she will do it, but that’s up to the duffer brothers if my theory is accurate. Like if you like my idea!! 💜💜💜
