Here is why Ulan Bator, Mongolia's capital, will surprise you. In one day you can roam the palace of the Mongolian 8th bogd khan or rub shoulders with Buddhist monks in monasteries, while skyscrapers rise tall in the background, trying to entice you for a cocktail or two in a rooftop bar. It is a great stop on the Trans Siberian (or Trans Mongolian) railway.

Ulaanbaatar really surprised us, with some great activities for a day. In this travel guide you'll find the top things to do in Ulan Bator Mongolia.

If you want to travel Mongolia or do a Mongolia tour, make sure to subscribe for more videos coming your way very, very soon. NEXT UP: horse trekking to the Tsaatan people, the last Mongolian reindeer herders, in the far north of Mongolia!

I too feel the ancient architecture here is Chinese influenced in a wonderful way. We didn't expect to see this but makes sense with the independence square. Beautiful colors.
Always love your photography and audio.
Best, James and Kim

By the way if you visit Ivolginskii datsan (buddhist monastery) in Ulan-Ude, Russia you may find that it looks close to Mongolian buddhist monastery in Ulan-Bator. Although I'm not sure which is bigger, I think monastery in Ulan-Bator is bigger. Buryats that live in Ulan-Ude are etnically close to mongols and so the Buryats culture is close to Mongolian.

Mogolia was part of China so that' s why the temples there reminded you of the ones in China.

The architecture was very Chinese because it was a real piece of Chinese architecture (Ming-QIng Style), because Mongolia used to be part of China before it was splited away from China by USSR.
