Is Learning Minority Languages A Waste Of Time?

Many people spend their time learning big languages like French, Russian or German. But some of us take an interest in minority languages like Wlesh or Irish as well. But with virtually all the speakers of these languages also being perfectly fluent in English and opportunities to practise being very rare, is learning these languages worth our time?

Alleine schon aus neurologischen Gründen ist das Lernen einer Sprache niemals ein Nachteil. Die Anzahl der Sprecher wäre im besten Fall einfach ein schöner Nebeneffekt

My entire resources for Low German (Holsteiner Plattdüütsch) are a 100 page book with parallel text in High German, a YouTube channel with under 100 followers, and a local punk band with some lyrics on Spotify. I don't speak any German though. I translate the German text into English via Google lens. It would be an advantage to know German but it's not essential. I'm having to figure out such things as word order and verb conjugation for my self by going through printed text. I'll probably learn German and maybe Dutch after Platt. Low German/Saxon is close to English, and as such my native reading comprehension has improved as a consequence.
