Pete, this was a bittersweet episode - I was really excited to see the beginning of the barn addition but I was sorry that you lost the broilers (at least you caught the perpetrator!). I’m looking forward to the update on the barn in your next video.

Got to be that raccoon you had last year that was caught and released somewhere else. They always find their way back.

I heard the best deterrent is to catch a raccoon, dismember it and put the parts on spikes around the area. Raccoons are pretty smart and they get the message.

Sorry about the broilers. Great to see construction happening. Love seeing the Dexter’s moving through the variegated greens of the fields. Good luck with the construction and hope you, Hillary and family have great week.

Understand that Possum Problem..
We had one that tried to get to our chickens. But One trap Later & One 9mm hole, in the top of his head, brought his stories to an end.

Bummer about the loss of your chickens. That was a really big raccoon, and I bet you have a couple more hanging around. Nice to see the barn construction begin. Hope all goes well.

Oh no! So sorry to hear about the broilers.
Your perspective on loss and challenges never fails to amaze me!

Looking good pete, just wanted to thank you for letting my granddaughter Bailey take a picture with you on Saturday. Sorry for the loss of your birds, great video of the new build can't wait for the end result!

I used to work on a lot of farms when I was younger. I'm almost 80 now, but I remember the days of joy and laughter and I remember the sad times that were hard to deal with. That is part of farming. Life goes on. The good and the bad, but it's the best life. Thanks for the video. I hope the addition goes on smoothly. Y'all take care❤

Those cows all looking in the same direction at the sound of the bang was funny, I imagine they aren't amused at all the strange activity. Looks like the barn addition will go pretty quickly, I'm looking forward to see how your plans work out over the next few months.

It's really sad to hear about the chickens, I lost one to a racoon once, it's not pretty how they leave them. Racoons can be pretty cute critters but then they remind you that they're wild animals by doing stuff like that. Even though you didn't even mention this aspect of it, having watched you for as long as I have has caused me to consider this from the mindset of the farmer, the cost of the chicks, the feed they had eaten so far and the lost profit from not being able to sell them. Hopefully this isn't too big a hit in that regard.

I live within a mile of our town square yet I seem to have every critter imaginable, everything from chipmunks, squirrels, raccoons, opossums, armadillos and foxes to deer. I started trapping the opossums and raccoons and relocating them because they were in the garbage and even getting into the bird feeder and attic. I mentioned it to someone at the extension service and they told me that the accepted way to rid yourself of them was to kill them once they were trapped. It was dangerous for the animals to relocate them to an area they were unfamiliar with and bad for the animals already in the relocation area. A game warden told me the same thing.

Anytime I have ever had a nuisance raccoon problem it was rarely just a single raccoon problem, normally it is a gaze of them. I also am surprised that raccoon in the trap was a calm and quiet as it was all the ones I have ever caught in a trap were aggressive, loud, and generally rather pissed off and mean of course I can’t fault them for being pissed off being in the trap but Mr Ruger always quilted right down after he has a talk with them

Darn coon! That sure hits the pocket book hard. When I was working at a goose farm we lost a 1000 one day to a tornado ! They went up in the sky and never saw them come down.

I caught eleven in two weeks... Needless to say I haven't been able to grow sweet corn in quite some time.

Losing chickens always sucks. We've lost them to fox and skunk. Wouldn't be so bad if it happened when they were 1-2 weeks old. Its always after you've invested 6-8 plus weeks into them. The barn addition is looking good!

I love when contractors start work early. Nice to have someone you know does good work. You can relax and just let them work.

Pete, so sorry about the broilers. At least you caught the critter. I really love watching your videos. I am 73 years old and was a building engineer. I have never farmed. I enjoy all your videos even the tractor rebuilds. I get a kick out of you interacting with all the animals, especially the cows. I hope you and Hillary have a great week.

Pete, we feel your loss. We lost our 28 baby chicks and 38 of our layers to a mink over the course of days. We have since resolved the problem and re-inforced the hen house.

It is so cute that your cows give you some attitude when they move with you. It is the cutest thing to see the new baby. Calf is absolutely adorable.❤❤

Glad you caught the little sucker!
Now hopefully you can catch a few more before putting more feathery friends out there.
