The way I see it, these are the real Fenders. I mean, the guy sold his company, and then started a company and continued working on and evolving his original designs. These are what modern Strats and Teles would be today if he had kept the company. Kind of “future” Fenders that the Fender company will never make. I’d particularly like to own a Comanche. It was Leo’s final word on what the Stratocaster should have become. I think what Fender is to Squier, G&L is to Fender, the next level up.

LOVE my G&L ASATs!!! Thx for playing one on the internet!

I like to play jazzy clean stuff and I like how the MFDs retain a lot of clarity when you roll the tone off, so you get a nice thick tone that’s still clear.

Every G&L I’ve ever played, I’ve loved. They are a very small company. Not available everywhere. One great thing they do is they put same electronics in the Tribute series as the American series. I never paid more then $275 for a used Tribute series and I always found the American series used for around $800. The quality of these are incredible.

I was looking for a Tele back in the 90s and was persuaded to try a G&L ASAT….I’m still playing it through a Fender Pro reverb….love it! I’ll never know the resale because I’ll never sell it. I also have a Les Paul Custom (which I also love) and these two cater for my every need 👍🍷

I finally upgraded my 25yo Mexistrat, to a G&L Skyhawk HH. It was so unbelievably nice to play & versatile, I also bought an FD ASAT Solamente (single pickup) to go along with it, thinking I’d keep the better of the 2 and reverb off the other. Nope, keeping them both. Brilliant instruments that compliment each other perfectly. Crap stock pick guard on the ASAT though, have to bite the bullet & order a proper chamfered one from them for $40. The only annoyance, albeit a minor one. Total fan now

I have a 2000 American ASAT Classic semi-hollow and I agree with mk win...G&L is a Fender in its evolved state. Fortunately for me, a custom hardshell case was included at the time. People like to get caught up in the nostalgia of the name Fender while dismissing the fact that Leo Fender and George Fullerton were Fender and moreso than Fender is since Leo sold Fender to CBS.

I’ve had my G&L ASAT getting on for 30 years and love it…..play it through an even older Fender twin pro reverb. It’s a very different beast from my Gibson LP Custom (which is about the same age) and together they cater for all my guitar needs 👍🍷

That one's a beauty. I have an ASAT special with the wide MFDs. I really like it but I think the tone on yours is very nice. I agree about the neck edges but everything else on it is really sweet. I love my Teles and my Strat too but the G&L is a keeper for me.

That's nice! I keep meaning to check these out. I was always under the impression that G&L was every bit as good as Fender, using the same specs without the premium for the name. I've never seen one in person though.

Good choice of brand man...g and l has been creeping into my radar this year...the quality and value cannot be denied for the $$..nice gig bag as well...just solid gear

You now have one of the last tele's made by the guy who made the first one....full circle! I'm a fan of those pickups

I absolutely love G&L guitar. I just bought a Fullerton Asat Classic Deluxe Bluesboy, in a light tobacco burst. My only issue with G&L, here in Canada anyway, is Very Hard to get factory parts for them. I want a tortoise pickguard and locking tuners but several dealer just try to convince me to go after market and No responds from the head company. But... the guitar is way better than Fender's equivalent.

Haven’t played an American G and L Tele but recently played a top of the range Strat type but the previous owner had stuck noiseless pickups in it !!! Neck felt amazing, didn’t stay in tune and surprised there’s no locking tuners . Nice though the gig bag looks at the price I’d be expecting a case . I really like the G and L Tribute Teles but the weight is ridiculous 9 lbs plus !!! The MFD pickups are great and they’re on the less expensive models so I’d be tempted to look at them . Oh and that second hand Strat was sold for £800 even with the noiseless pickups .Brand new be £1300 plus cost of noiseless pickups which don’t function well with the tone controls as they are more treble and bass controls apparently 😟

I've just taken delivery of my ASAT Classic that I managed to find here in Australia. A couple of observations, but with a big disclaimer: I am coming off a Squier Classic Vibe 50s Tele, so I suspect any US-made guitar is going to feel absolutely amazing. First: I LOVE the tummy cut! I mostly play sitting and it feels so much more comfortable to have that scoop. Second: The weight... it is swamp ash body and significantly lighter than the Squier (pine) and feels really nice to hold. When I decided to upgrade I was also considering getting a Fender Pro ll but I saw they are now being made from "roasted pine" [Edit: Actually I see both Fender and G&L are now using pine]. Third: The price here was markedly cheaper (AU$2200) compared to AU$2800 for the Fender (note though that the Fender comes with a hard case, G&L only with the gig bag).
Overall I am very happy with my choice - the build quality is excellent. I realise that it may not have the same resale value as a Fender, but I am buying it to play. When I get enough money to start building a guitar-based investment portfolio I might think differently. 😃

Seems really well made. Looks very nice -- the colour and grain are great, headstock not so much -- but if it's close in price to an Am Pro II Tele, there's a number of things that are better on the Fender, from the neck to the sculpted neck heel. The belly cut is never important to me, but I do like the low weight of this guitar and the six-saddles are probably more to my liking than the three on the Am Pro (although I still haven't had any intonation problems so far with my Am Pro II). Case is much nicer with the Fender as well.
