He used to be a "guilty pleasure" of mine. I say "used to" because I no longer feel guilty about loving his music. I could listen to Songbird a million times and never grow tired of it. He can make a saxophone sing and the backing music is AMAZING!

I never understood all the hate for Kenny. I listen to all kinds of music (jazz, metal, electronic - you name it) and while i can appreciate the more avant-garde and "artsy" side of jazz, i still listen to Kenny's albums from time to time when i need to just relax. His music is great for the soul, and bless him for that!

Ugh, Kenny G is still one of my favorites. He's truly IS underappreciated. He's magnificent. His live with Michael Bolton knocked me off my socks lol The two greats together!

I am a jazz snob, a purist, dedicated to truly great music. And it's always irked me that people put Kenny down. Hes a very good musician, honest, original, and hes kind. He never said he was going to out-play Michael Brecker or Trane., hes just doing what he loves, making a living on his terms. If you can do your art and get paid for it, then good for you. Bravo Kenny, because you have the last laugh at all those who judged you.

I remember back in late 90's when I used to live in India, my dad used to play Kenny G's songs in my bedroom which happened to be BOSE rigged as well (He used to be a lawyer). I immediately fell in love with the tune and I remember telling everyone I wanted to be a saxophone player when I grow up. I got my chance in 5th grade a year after immigrating. I remember writing the notes for "Then sings my Soul" on a sheet of paper after listening to it. That's the moment when I realized that I could play by ear. To this day I can play all the instruments in the sax family but my first love will always be the Soprano saxophone.

His music was always in my family's holiday playlist and I always found it soothing. I saw him live and it gave me a new respect for him as a musician. Really fun show. Doesn't deserve the flack at all.

When I was a kid I went with my mother to a Micheal Bolton/Kenny G concert where they performed back to back in the same show. At the time as a kid concerts to me were like art museums soooo boring! But this concert had me hooked on every note from start to finish with both musicians! at 9 or 10 years old it was magical first time I ever had any interest in a live concert.

I was in radio when Songbird was released; we stopped in our tracks, the song is so smooth and relaxing.
Kenny is totally underrated as a composer and musician; he stays true to his music and he knows what his audience wants.

Kenny G is super talented in many ways. Not only is he an accomplished musician, he is an excellent pilot and scratch golfer that has won the "old" Bing Crosby Pebble Beach Clambake Golf Tournament. Maybe the jazz critics don't appreciate his style but selling over 75 million records/tapes/cd's says volumes (no pun intended). Besides all the above, he is a polite and considerate fellow. I had the pleasure of being on one of his flights many years ago and he helped an old lady with her luggage. How many "stars" of today would take the trouble. Mark me down as a forever fan. Play on Kenny G.

This doc is great and you should watch it no matter how you feel about Kenny G’s music. It’s more about the cultural phenomena surrounding G’s music than anything else.

I can listen to Silhouette, Songbird, Going Home, and Uncle Al all day. Oh throw in Brahms' Lullaby, too.

I usually don’t watch documentaries but my god, this was better than most of the “good” movies of 2021. It’s genuine, funny, insightful and very mature. And the editing is so clean 🤌

The jazz community always does this. They did it to SADE (the group, not just the singer) but they never listened. They make the music they want to make and release albums when they want to and their fans have always been loyal.

I am a private music instructor. This is my 10th year of running my own studio for lessons.
Previously, I taught 3 years of middle school band & choir to inner-city kids as well as another 3 years as music director at a private Christian academy.
I'm fully-certified as a teacher and I hold a bachelor's & a master's degree - both in music education.
I have been playing saxophone for over 31 years now.
Sometime during my 1st year of playing (6th grade), I found Kenny's album "Silhouette" in my parents' CD collection. I never really listened to the sound of a soprano sax and I just loved it.
Kenny also plays alto & tenor sax (which I played in junior high bands).
Everyone in my family knows (and best friends, too) that Kenny was my favorite.
I learned his melodies, his runs, circular breathing, altissimo, etc. and performed his songs whenever there was a concert, talent show, etc.
While I don't love everything he has created, I still listen to his music and I play it far more often.
In fact, I continue to get students who want to learn how to play Kenny's music.
I didn't pick up the sax because of Kenny, and there are many other sax players & sax solos etc. that I love to listen to, play, and teach as well.
But many of Kenny's songs connect with me & so therefore I won't apologize for being genuine.

Reminds me of John Mayer these days. Widely successful, recognized by peers, hated in the guitar community.

When I first started playing sax as a kid in school band, he was huge, so I learned Songbird and had his album in my regular rotation with Charlie Parker and Coltrane. I grew out of listening to contemporary jazz but still have respect for what he has done to introduce people back to instrumental music as a legitimate sound to the musical landscape. Hating on him is silly and just typical snobbery that goes on in the arts and if someone digs it let it be and move on.

I grew up listening to his music. One of the first CD's my family ever bought in the late 80's was one of his albums.
