Smooth-jazz artist Kenny G is beloved by millions for songs like “Songbird” and “Silhouette,” but the curly-haired performer also came to symbolize what people hate about elevator music, making him the butt of jokes from The Simpsons to South Park. Filmmaker Penny Lane (Hail Satan?) takes a witty and provocative approach to tell Kenny G’s story while asking a bigger question: what makes music good or bad? The results are “ruthlessly entertaining” (Variety).

I really want to say Penny your work ethic on this documentary is appreciated. Your directing of the film was right on point as I'm hearing. Come December 2nd I'll have the opportunity to watch it and provide my thoughts. Kenny as one of your loyal fans I appreciate you allowing us to know you, and learn more about how playing the Sax changed your life. I'm grateful you had the balls to risk it all by performing that solo on the Tonight show. Many doors opened for you after that performance. Your unique sound was needed because no one was playing the Sax like you. I really appreciate Mr. Clyde Davis for seeing you stand out from your band and asked you to do a solo album. Those no's and you weren't good enough paid off because it pushed you to forfeit doing outside kid stuff so you could practice and get better. It's evident even today your self discipline paying off. I also want to show appreciation for Mr. James Gardiner who mentored you, and gave you the encouragement to move forward with the Saxophone, and for helping you get your 1st gig with the late great Barry White. I'm sure I speak on behalf of your loyal fans to say we wish you continued success and know you have our full support. Remember you can't please everyone, critics will be critics and your supporters will support. I admire your work ethic and look forward to hearing your new album "New Standards" out December 3rd.
