I used to be a cell-site technician. I worked to make-sure that cellular phone towers would connect to phones and to other towers. My test rig, in my truck, would let me listen to a connection to a CD player. Someone thought that an Alice In Chains CD was a good choice for a team of techs to dial-in-to, in the morning and monitor there sites throughout the day. I figured that I wasn’t the only one who demurred from listening to the same Alice In Chains album, all-day, every-day. So I politely called- to ask for change of the disc. I apparently reached a dude who listened to Alice In Chains all day, every-day, and told me to F- off and live with it. Well, after brief consideration, I sent a hot shotgun email to everyone, explaining how my suggestion was received. I got no response, but, in a day or two, the sharpest blade on the bench, the Switch Manager, sent someone to put this disc into the cell-test system player. To this day, I can recite phrases and paragraphs from Stephen Hawkins “A Brief History of Time”.

I love these books they make me think so deeply. This one made me have the idea (of course wrong or it would be a theory) that maybe the universe is expanding because the energy that falls into a black hole, gets distributed equally throughout all of space time causing this expansion.

I have attempted to read A Brief History of Time many times, but have not been particularly successful. In this case I am attempting to listen. At first I was somewhat distracted by the narrator’s British accent. But, remembering that Stephen Hawking was born and lived in Britain, he would have a British accent. Still, it is challenging to stay with the book. When we read, we have a pace of reading that correlates to our pace of comprehension. We are not in control of the pace of the narrator.
