The ratatouille in the movie was thinly sliced and arranged the way it was because it was made at a 5 star restaurant in France 😂 I’ve never understood why people are surprised that it looked different in the movie, like if you order anything at a fancy enough restaurant you’re going to get some crazy looking version of well known foods

People really missed the part that Colet said it was a peasant dish. After the movie it suddenly became a culinary icon associated with french cooking.

I’ve been making it provincial style for about 10 years. I’ve never been able to make it confit byaldi style (the style you see in the movie) because I’ve never been able to find yellow zucchini until recently. I’m making it tomorrow and I’m so excited!

Hi, FYI the "ratatouille" in the movie is actually closer to what us French call "tian provençal" 😊 so both dishes are real

As a french version, it blows my mind how ratatouille, which is very common and cheap to make while also being delicious, sometimes surprises other people because they expect it to look like the pixar thinggy xDD

since you’re in Nice, you should try out an Italian restaurant called Boccaccio it’s amazing it’s located in the center of the city. Be careful it kind of gets busy for dinner time.

Wow, can't wait to try both versions one day! Glad to see you're having a great time in France, Inga, I can't wait to go myself one day!

I live here! Please go and try typical foods from this city that has a special history ! It's called "cuisine nissarde" (i personally love The Tchitchou restaurant (reservation advised)

Otherwise if you want to get probably the best Napolitana pizza here, go to Les Amoureux and try their specialties you will NOT be disappointed (get there early, they don't take reservations and their shift is short, get there by 6:45pm and you'll be just fine)

Me: eating my homemade food (from a recipe book) and scrolling, watching YouTube shorts. Hearing inga saying she's trying the original ratatouille, pausing feeling quite concerned looking down at my bowl, wondering how in the hell did my tablet know that I am consuming my homemade original ratatouille.😅

Thats the difference of a fine dining restaurant and a family restaurant each has their own plating style AND cooking style

My mom, a very SE asian woman, makes ratatouille every other day and I don't blame her.

Ratatouille is a peasants dish. It’s is not perfectly sliced, it is cooked long and slow in whatever sized chunks work. I abhor the version that the movie shows, because while that might be modern French cuisine, it is not the ratatouille they were all love and know in our hearts.
