Path of Exile didn't make D3 players quit D3. Blizzard done it herself.
People from Diablo just started playing PoE because it was a better game overrall.

I left Diablo III after they destroyed my wizard tank build. I put a lot of effort into acquiring the necessary items and everything to make it work. I was criticized left and right for even attempting a tank build on a wizard.. but it actually worked. He was an amazing tank.. until they decided to break it. That's when I left. Really, who wants to always have their playstyle completely reset repeatedly at the whims of some office dude who never plays the game his self? It isn't worth it.

I would like to point out that nobody’s reason for quitting Diablo 2 has had anything to do with graphics.

It’s unfortunate that the gaming industry focuses so much on upping res and making things HD. Imagine all the time/energy/resources that get diverted into (ultimately) cartoony graphics that could instead be dedicated to rich and meaningful gameplay.

The pain man, I remember when I had a smiter pally fully equipped and blizzard deleted my account. The answer was a "sorry, it's a problem but nothing I can do" I quit that moment

To me there is no Diablo 3, because Diablo died when Blizzard North died. Plus Diablo himself has nightmares to this day from what Blizzard South did to him XD

Joking aside, I couldn't get myself to play past act 2 of that disappointment of a sequel.

The fact that Grinding Gear Games release new content/expansion/league every three months for Path of Exile (which is a free game!) made me quit every Diablo game. I still love D2, but because of the overwhelming support by GGG to its game I only play PoE. In my eyes it's also the successor of D2.

I actually liked d3 when it first came out. Auction house was a cool idea but bad as far as incorporating real money into it. I liked the traditional normal, nightmare, and hell difficulties and having to run levels for better gear to keep advancing. I hate the easy gear find crap they do now. It's like little league and everyone gets a trophy now. Not a fan of crafting legendaries and adding legendary powers to items. D2 story line and cinematics were epic. D3 and D2 are 2 different games now. I've tried path of exile but I don't like the atmosphere of it and not a fan of the socket skill stuff. I liked d2 left click and right click skill set and skill trees. It was simple and felt rewarding.

I quit 2 because they quit supporting it. I quit 3 because it was not what we were promised. Blizzard has became a big let down.

My brother, a couple close friends and myself start up Diablo 2 every few years or so and it’s the same awesomeness it’s always been.

I liked D3 after Reaper of Souls, I've invested 300+ hours into it. Tried all the content several times, had my fun /value for money justified.

I would never quit my heroes from Diablo II and III... for me its still the best ARPG series ever made! I would be happy to see Diablo IV or another expansion for DIablo III.

One of my Diablo 2 accounts, (which I've had for over 15 years) now only showing one character. This was not a HC account, always logged in at least once a month.
This was a very important account, which I used to run through the game with new characters.
Had Items which pre dated the LoD expansion pack (2001). Rare rings with 7% mana leech at lvl 4!
I have five account on D2. I always login once a month (or so) to make sure characters are not deleted.
Of course, Blizzard washed their hands of it. Very disheartening.

The real Diablo 3 is doing great. It's just called Path of Exile.
