And Citi SMRT has transformed to a cashback credit card with minimum spend requirements
In this video, I will go through the full analysis and discuss my spending strategies for these credit cards with minimum spend for you, so that you don’t have to!

- With higher requirements, comes higher rewards
- Minimum spending credit cards have better cashback (above 5%) than no minimum spend cards
- If you did not hit the minimum spend, most likely get nothing

- Existing YOLO Card effective till 16 Jun 2021
* 8% cashback on: Weekend Dining & Entertainment, Grab & UOB Travel spend
* 3% cashback on: Weekday Dining & Entertainment, Grab & UOB Travel spend, Online fashion, Online travel (selected)
* 0.3% cashback on all other spend
- NEW EVOL card effective 17 Jun 2021
* 8% cashback on:
* Online spend (includes Dining, Entertainment, Shopping, Fashion, Grab, Hotels and more)
* Mobile contactless spend (all Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay, Fitbit Pay) – for all your in-store spend
* 0.3% cashback on all other spend
Cashback cap: S$60 per statement month
(S$20 on online, S$20 on mobile contactless and S$20 on other spend)
UOB EVOL Card strategy ($600 min spend):
To max out $20 Online and $20 Contactless
- Spend ($20/0.08) = $250 for each online and contactless
- $250 online, $250 contactless = $500 total spend, get $40 cashback
- $100 other spend at 0.3% = $0.30
- Top-up EZ-link, Insurance, Grabpay prepaid wallet
- Total Cashback = $40.30 for $600 spend = 6.7% effective cashback
- Existing “Citibank SMRT Card”, valid till 24 May 2021
* 5% savings* on groceries (7.3% for FairPrice Xtra Kallang Wave)
* 5% savings* on fast food, movies and coffee
* 3% savings* on online shopping
- Less 0.3% if statement balance less than $300
- NEW “Citi SMRT Card”, effective from 25 May 2021
- 5% Cashback for Groceries (MCC 5411), Online (exclude mobile wallet and travel), EZ-Link Auto top-up & SimplyGo, Taxis & Private hire rides (MCC 4121)
- Need to hit min spend of S$500, or get only 0.3%
Citi SMRT Card strategy ($500 min spend):
To only spend on eligible $500 categories
- $300 Grocery (NTUC Fairprice, Sheng Siong, Giant, Cold Storage)
- $50 SimplyGo/EZ-Link Auto Top-up
- $50 Grab/Comfort Taxi
- $100 Online (Qoo10, Lazada, Shopee with $10 off every Sunday)
- 5% Cashback on $500 = $25

- EVOL is an enhancement, CITI is mixed
- EVOL got rid of confusing cashback categories between weekday vs weekend while keeping the same minimum spend
- CITI requires min spend now which is bad, but expands to online spend category which is more popular
