how do you simplify when you have a power square root that is a fraction?

I feel like no one has every told me that Surds are just a way to write irrational numbers, specifically irrational roots of rational numbers. (I'm sure I must have heard it but it didn't click until now)

Square root of 4 is 2
So 2to50.
