We often think of Mazda when it comes to rotary engines. But John Deere also made rotaries and the 580 was huge!

Had more than one RX7. Was inside a few engines (did it for others, too). That rotor is HUMONGOUS! You could get close to 1000 out of a three rotor, set up for drags, but it took some bucks and work, and obviously wouldn't put that out continuously for long periods. The cooling could not begin to keep up, as just one problem. Life was pretty crap, too, at those levels.

Wrong! The largest Wankel RCE ever was built by Ingersoll-Rand, had a displacement of 41 litres, run on Natural Gas, and gave thousands of hours trouble-free operation, mostly in gas pipelines, before production was discontinued. See SAE paper by T Chen.
MAN in Germany built, they had a Wankel license for truck and Diesel RCEs, a prototype of a size similar to the Ingersoll-Rand Wankel. No series existed.

I wonder why we don't have more of these type engines? They seem like they would be more appropriate for lawn mowers and Automobiles Etc. They also look like they're a lot easier to work on but of course I've never seen one to know.

I wonder if it would be possible to make a diesel wankel? For one, it would fix the lubrication issue, because diesel is an oil and not a solvent like petrol.
