Final Fantasy has featured some punishingly brutal bosses over the years, but even though some might seem insurmountable, there would be those that featured unconventional weaknesses that would make the bosses trivial by comparison. In this video we're covering a whole new selection, as chosen by our commenters!

RUFUS WAS WEAK TO STOP? That would’ve made my life so much easier back when I played it on hard mode in 2020 😭

Rufus' real weakness in remake was you being able to count to 6

Nothing blew my mind quite like when I discovered I can just zombie Yu Yevon, and throw a Phoenix Down at him to kill him... the final boss of FFX.. I'm surprised Defender X was mentioned instead of this.

See, Rufus, being a rich person, is all about Status. In regular life, he just has the Wealth Status, but in combat, you can also inflict him with Sleep and Stop (it's impossible to remove that Wealth Status though).

I wasn't surprised by Rufus' weakness in the Remake version because he was already weak to Bio/Poison in the first game, so I figured something like that would carry over and found out quickly.

I like the idea that Rufus, being ostensibly a humanoid on a similar level to Cloud himself, isn't immune to status effects like everything else on the planet is. It makes so much sense thinking about it logically, but because anyone would be approaching the fight from a meta angle of "this is boss therefore status = no" you don't know it's possible. Of course, this says a lot more about the rest of the system than it does the design of this fight. :{

Wow. The algorithm got this to me quick

I remember SINs weakness: Zombification. It turns it's healing into its own death kneel.

There was also the Vanish Doom/X-Zone trick that easily made quick work of that boss in Cyan's nightmare

I really love the FFIX battle theme being played in the background, I never imagined it to sound as awesome as it does here

It always brings me a smile when I see a new video from FFU has been released. We're very lucky to have you two.

Seymore Flux has ridiculous spells, a bit that can absorb magic which he can re-summon at will if you kill it and a ton of HP not to mention at Mt Gagazet there isn't a lot you can do to prepare besides level up and maybe buy equipment from just cast he's vulnerable to poison.

FFX, Yu Yevon final boss fight. Vulnerable to Zombie attack, throw a mega phoenix down, done. I am shocked more people don’t talk about this.

They should have added the itangir boss fight from ff6.Being one of the most challenging fights because itangir was immune to all elements, and keep getting on using the sleep spell on himself and counter attacked with meteor everytime the player attacked.Only to find out later that he was vulnerable to the stop spell.

You could also simplify Chac in X-2 with a Berserker who knows enough auto-dodge/counter skills. You're basically invincible at that point.

I have to add the Dark Elf from Final Fantasy 4's initial SNES release in the US. After he transforms into his Dark Dragon form he inexplicably becomes vulnerable to the Tornado spell (or Weak in this version) reducing him to 1Hp allowing you to one-shot him.

FF7 Remake Rufus actually had another weakness; counter. If you had a full Counter set, he actually couldn't hurt you. Also for Chak using three Gun Slingers in rhythm Chak would be stagger locked.

I know it wasn't a super hard boss, but I will never forget when I was 10 years old and I was playing FF9 and my best friend told me that using a tent on Ghizamaluk would absolutely cripple him. Considering that it was a solo battle for Gidang and I was young and terrible, it was a huge help back then

I just fought Rufus yesterday. the way I was screaming this is broken lol I felt like I was fighting a from soft boss from Elden ring or something with his endless attacks you can't block or his small window to stagger him for 1 second.
