We do not even know what gives consciousness to humans, how would we be qualified to decide the same for machines?

Concerning the Chinese room argument… Must it be concluded that a programmed computer might appear to be cognitive, but isn’t truly aware? Or might the human ego forbid the thought that we are no different than programmed (learned) reactions to specific stimuli?
