Texas is the last place I expect to have this kind of law.

In Texas, there are properties larger than some neighborhoods it's easy to unintentionally trespass

Texas Penal Code 9.41 says ya can if you feel threatened, would you feel threatened if a bunch of folk’s jumped your 20 foot gate ???

No you cannot.
That's why police don't get called to remove trespassers.
They get called to remove dead burglars.

Texas should also end Squater's rights laws like Florida just did.

And I just figured out why every single house in Texas has a patio with a door.

I feel like this law was written to protect people accidentally crossing property lines. Maybe wandered off of public land onto private property on accident. Scouting a friends private property and unknowingly wanders onto the neighbors land, maybe got lost, or lost a pet or tracking a blood trail etc. I would hate to get shot or shoot at someone while only being guilty of making a simple mistake.

Every true Texan: “I recognize that it is against the law. But given that it’s a stupid-ass law, I’ve elected to ignore it.”

I live in Pennsylvania and I remember the sheriff telling my dad to make sure the body's inside the house

TF is the point of paying for private property if I have to wait for somebody to make up their mind on what they are going to do on my private property? Especially if I have a 20 foot wall?

*Edit: somebody broke it down, texas properties are huge and interwoven. It's too easy to end up on somebody else's property. Forgive me, I'm from Georgia, it's different and smaller here.

Reasons people might be in your yard:
- They're drunk
- They're having a mental health crisis
- Their dog ran onto your property
- They're children who don't know better
- They're delivery drivers who got lost
- They read your house number wrong
- They're there to hurt you or steal your stuff
Best to make sure it's the last one before doing something irreversible, yeah?

Texas Penal Code Section 9.41 explains that a person is allowed to use force, but not deadly force, to terminate a mere trespass or interference with property.

looking at someone these comments…
it is very concerning how many people want an excuse to use their gun

imo, if you want to shoot someone, you shouldn’t be armed

I’m in Missouri, and I get what he’s saying, but in Stand Your Ground and Castle Law states, if a trespasser advances in a threatening manner (subjective), and I order them to stop advancing, or off of my property, I have a right to shoot in certain instances. I could be elderly, have health problems, be outnumbered etc;. I’m not going hands on with anyone, especially if I’m on my property, and especially if I have a firearm on me, that can be taken away.

I think I get it. It's like how fighter pilots make a distinction between 'bogeys' and 'bandits'. Bogeys are unidentified contacts who may be wandering around in places they shouldn't be, but they're not necessarily enemies or even hostile; while bandits are confirmed bad guys trying to do bad-guy stuff, and who are probably about to have a Very Bad Day.

Stand your ground law: if your life is in danger you can. You cannot kill someone in your property if they do not have ill intent.
