Bore cut on a heavy leaner

Using the bore cut on Manitoba Maple that was leaning significantly (as they often do). This is a technique used to safely fell a leaning tree. It helps to reduce the chance of "barber chairing" or premature splitting of tree while making a back cut.

Bore cut was something I was unfamiliar with a while ago. But now I see it’s really useful.

Next time after you bore cut to about 2/3 out the back, stop as you did and pull the saw out. Instead of going back in at the same level as your first cut drop down about an inch and cut in from there that will let the fiber release the tree easier

Did a great job for sure. I have a few box elders leaning like that in the pasture so I'll try the bore cut with my Husky. Am I seeing straps above the cut to prevent a Widow Maker? I think that would be a great idea but I will use a chain. Great video.

On a heavy leaner never ever cut your back strap!! Your process was void once you cut the back of the tree. Don’t do that! This is how ppl die. Bore in like you did, turn the saw over, get behind the saw, and full throttle out the back and run to your safety zone.
